New York (CNN) - Mayor Michael Bloomberg, known in New York City for his tough regulations on everything from large sodas to smoking in Central Park, proposed a new target during his final State of the City speech Thursday: plastic foam containers.
"Styrofoam increases the cost of recycling by as much as $20 per ton because it has to be removed," the mayor said. "Something we know is environmentally destructive, that is costing tax payers money, and that is easily replaceable, I think, is something we can do without."

$20 per ton for the amount of recyclable refuse a city of approximately 10M people generates is A LOT of money. This is fiscally AND environmentally responsible. Let's watch how quickly the environmental part of it irrevocably taints it for the GOPers/Teatrolls and has them screaming bloody murder.
so what will the jail time and fine be for possession of styrofoam in nyc? it is about time nyc cracks down on these environmental criminals. 10 year hard labor in the re-education camps should do it.
And just to elaborate a wee bit: this is a consistent, measurable and reproduceable effect with environmental issues, i.e., that irresponsible behavior and consumption due to lack of forethought and appropriate regulation ENDS UP COSTING US MORE than if we'd just did it right (or at least attempted to) from the get-go.
Why not we make these plates with big-leafs, even cups with big leaves. I think we can do it. They are Environmental friendly. They are bio-degradable too. Try–you like it. More so you do not have to cut the trees. They are leaves. Leaf is as big as a paper plate.
But you can't get the drugs out, guess you don't feel this is a bigger problem.
Have you ever thought of banning yourself you are banning everything else the joke of our Country behind Obama but don't worry your gaining on him.

Since you seem to like smoking said styrofoam, then maybe that's not a bad idea.
You go Mr Mayor !!! Let's get all them Teatrolls riled up again.. they haven't had their wheaties today and need more intelligent leadership to tell them what to do....
