Obama: Overcoming poverty and violence hard, but can be done
(CNN) - President Barack Obama said Friday that children from communities wracked by poverty and violence need help from the government, schools, family and clergy to have a chance to climb "ladders of opportunity" to reach the middle class and beyond.
Speaking at a Chicago high school near where he used to live, Obama cited gun violence that killed 443 people in the city last year as one reason why children need community wide support to help them believe they can improve their lives through education and hard work.

95% of all violent crime is minority related so to reduce crime,get rid of the minorities
Many ideas brought forth in the gun debate certainly have merit, and little political fallout. Background checks are supported by most people. Stopping 'straw purchases' also, with effective (and enforceable) laws. Maybe the proper course would be to bring up each element, separately, for vote.
While NRA chief executive Wayne LaPierre generally sounds like a total nutcase,and probably doesn't represent the opinion of most gun owners, he is somewhat correct in that the gun violence debate is off focus. Since he seems to be against ANY discussion of guns and crime, his slight bit of correctness makes him like the proverbial 'broken clock', right for about 2 seconds out of 24 hours.
Banning, or putting a lot of political capital behind a ban on, assault rifles will do little or nothing to reduce gun violence. Australia had success with a gun ban, but they REMOVED hundreds of thousands of guns from the public. We will not be doing that in this country.
Keep wasting tax payer dollars traveling promoting issues that will NEVER pass a vote. How about working on the main problem with the United States? Work on the economy!

So, if over 95% of all white collar crime is committed by white men, should we get rid of the white men?

Guns Soc. Sec. medicare. Jobs.. Will be voted on in the midterm election. Will see who's left.
