Coalition of Christians pushes Congress to protect poor from forced spending cuts

Washington (CNN) – A coalition of noteworthy Christian leaders and thinkers is asking President Barack Obama and congressional leaders to protect the poor from the forced spending cuts that are due to take effect this week.

The group’s open letter frames budget decisions as a moral question for lawmakers and asks them to stop the political brinksmanship.

GOP would answer this: The poors know how to handle hunger from their experience the riches on the other hand they cannot bear to have less.

They are simply asking Obama to choose between hand outs to the poor, or taxes on the middle class.

Those ARE the only 2 paths forward.

Republicans are motivated to protect the ultra-wealthy from paying a fair tax rate – a rate that produced prosperity for all Americans in the past. They consider the poor the 47% of Americans they "don't worry about". They strongly oppose an increase in the minimum wage. They support deep cuts in Medicaid, food stamps, and unemployment benefits. They propose destroying Social Security through a thinly-disguised "privatization" scam. They want the elderly to pay far more for Medicare so pharmaceutical and HMO corporate contributors can reap the profits. They are opposed to pre-kindergarden for poor kids – programs designed to help break the poverty cycle. None of their positions show concern for the poor.

You know what...this is pathetic. Just think that the American people are Paying these people in Congress to screw them and the Country they live in. This is sad. The congress know why these measures were put in place...because they were screwing us before. It was put in place to force some type o compromise. you know like compromise in how our government worked for so many years, and now they're taking their compromise and going home. Americans, WE'VE BEEN HAD.....AGAIN!

Like the story in the Bible, Republican/Tea Party politicians will walk pass, over, and on the poor and sick without giving them a second thought.

Well, some real Christians speak out against the bagger's version of "chri$tianity".

One group seeks to be more Christ like and help the poor and sick.

The GOP "chri$tians" view the poor and sick as "takers", "anchor babies", "welfare queens" and any number of dehumanizing and not very compassionate names, which should all be starved or allow to die in the streets or maybe, in the ER, the GOP's preferred method of health care for the poor. They then self-righteously can claim they have done their part. Never mind the pain the "slackers" have endure before the make to die in the ER,

I must have missed the chapter and verse that stated it was fine to ignore the poor, and denigrate them, once YOU determine YOU have spent all you want to help those less fortunate.

Mustn't let morality get in the way of worshipping the GOP's true god, the almighty $.

And the bagger "chri$tians" wonder why some of us view the book they love to quote, as the Holy Book of Fables.

Wow, I never thought that this would happen. I wonder if other "Christian groups" will actually do something to help the poor.

Repubs don't give a flying rat's fanny about anyone except the 400 wealthiest Americans, so these well-meaning people are wasting their breath.

I hope everyone remembers the pain the Repubs put our country through, and not just during the 8 years of the Bush presidency, what with his unfunded wars, unfunded Medicare and tax cuts during wartime (NEVER done before in our nation's history).

I hope everyone remembers the pain the Repubs have put our country through because they don't respect the will of the people – who elected President Obama TWICE and who retained a Democratic majority in the Senate and cast more votes for Democrats in the House (the Repubs held on to their majority through jerrymandering – FACT).

Remember this folks, and come 2014, vote accordingly. Vote the Repubs OUT!

Let's get something very clear here, the GOP only cares about religion when social issues such as gay marriage and abortion are at stake. Christian caring for the poor and the disabled are way WAY down the list of priorities for the GOP.

They could help a lot of poor people if they stopped production of the F 35 fighter jet !

In that one-page summary, GAO states the F-35 program now projects “costs of $395.7 billion, an increase of $117.2 billion.

    Thank you Sen. Lindsey Graham.

They are so worried that some woman they have never met might have an abortion that they forgt that the republicons ar using that wedge issue tomdupe them into voting for a party that pursues an agenda that would make Jesus barf. The gop takes from the poor, tramples the weak, crushes the widow and the orphan. They are the pharisees who pray loudly in the temple for all to see while living lives that ar onholy and ungodly.
