#jedimindmeld: The force for Obama is strong here

(CNN) - Live on, the story does.

After the nerd-world lit up following President Barack Obama's now-famous Star Wars mix-up on Friday, Lucasfilm, the company behind the movie series, has officially weighed in.

[twitter-follow screen_name='politicalticker']

Obama said Friday he didn't have the power to "somehow do a Jedi mind meld with these folks and convince them to do what's right" on reaching a deal to avert the forced spending cuts. The comment came in response to a question from CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jessica Yellin after the president met with top congressional leaders from both parties.

For anyone fluent with the two sci-fi ventures, the jumble was obvious: Obama conflated the Jedi mind trick with the Vulcan mind meld (duh!). The debate brought out "Star Trek" stars George Takei (Mr. Sulu) and Leonard Nimoy (Spock), a comical response from the White House, and even a petition calling for an apology from the president (It has 53 signatures).

But a spokeswoman from Lucasfilm said the president wasn't too far off the mark.

"President Obama might have created a mash-up of Star Wars friends at Lucasfilm and Star Trek but he also might be a lot more savvy with his knowledge of Star Wars than anyone is giving him credit for," Lynne Hale said. "In some of the Star Wars spin-off books there is a 'Force Meld'."

She continued: "All of President Obama's friends at Lucasfilm would love to believe that his expertise in Star Wars knowledge runs deep..."

So what is a "Force Meld"? Besides an excellent trivia answer, a force meld is apparently "a technique where a number of Force users join their minds together through the Force, drawing strength from each other," according to "Wookieepedia," the Star Wars wiki.

No matter what Obama meant to say, he'll likely still feel support from the Star Wars community. After all, Star Wars creator George Lucas was a major donor of Obama's election bids. And the president has wielded both Star Wars and Star Trek references in the past–with success.

Why is CNN still talking about this? I love Star Wars as much as the next person, but this is a waste of time.

Will American Industrial Engineers and Accountants (CPA) try to start the ERP reengineering?
It seems that the differences that had been found repetitively by the Big American Account Firms to American Corporates is not a coincidence because of the bad implementations of the ERP by foreigners with lack of knowledge about productivity, cost reductions programs, fiscal, and accounting laws that we are using in the States and World Wide like SOX for American companies.
Productivity, cost reduction programs among others can be achieved by consultants with strong knowledge in industrial engineering and accounting using Activity Based Cost sub module in the ERP. It is impossible than only a programmers or configurators in ERP could do that.
The importance of using the capitalist models is a key complete new attitude to start with the ERP reengineering instead of the socialist and communist ideas. We have to reevaluate the way we used to deal businesses before ERP and start everything again, because what we have today it does not work at all.
Americans companies, its vendors and customers have been attacked by Cyber Attacks for long time ago, that it seems that complete finance, accounting, and IT areas as well as government employees are working against the productivity and cost reduction programs, protected by the wrong ERP implementations have been messing against the American capitalist good practices in global mafias, the result it is that we cannot compete against communist and socialist monopolies worldwide any more.
Industrial Engineers and Accountants (CPA) have to work together in the design and implementation of the new ERP version USA and after extend the design to other countries making sure the capitalist mathematical models are used in all the stages of the American businesses.

Is THIS what journalism has come to? Star Wars or Star Trek?

With all the problems this country is facing. The obstructionists GOP that is willing to throw the 98% under the bus, simply to make this POTUS fail. The southern states challenging the Voters Rights Act, just 4 months after the GOP did everything in their power to disenfranchise minority voters in the last election and all there is to talk about is Star Wars or Trek??
    Unfreekingbelievable.

Im sure the conspiracy idiots on the right will be frothing at the mouth about this and demand to see Obama's tv and movie watching records for the past 30 years, How COULD he possibly mix that up?? He must not have had a tv when he was born in Kenya and therefore couldn't accurately distinguish Star Wars from Star Trek!!

Give him a break. He had had a Force vision of the future. Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands gain statehood. Meanwhile, in a desparate attempt to dilute the vote of minorities, Texas splits into 6 separate states.

It would appear that the Frank Luntz strategy of "making a liberal govern like a conservative" and their failed policies has been working quite effectively.

The country is doomed. The IQs are falling because of our failed school systems and entertainment culture.

This article pretty much confirms it.

Meanwhile most Americans don't know squat about how bad a condition this country is in financially. Most will be suitably entertained right up to the moment when it all collapses around them. Then wonder what the heck happened.

Is this the only place the GOP has an obvious Obama fault to attack? I guess we know who the real cling-on's are! They cling-on to anything Obama says wrong.

Most Americans do have some idea of how bad the economic outlook is. The problem is that the right wing either does not understand or refuses to acknowledge why the country's finances are in the shape that they are in.

For example, did you know that annual federal spending doubled beween FY2001 to FY2009? Those were the Bush years, which saw an annual year to year growth of 7-9% in spending. All of the spending growth was written into law during the Bush years. Did you know that the number of federal employees DOUBLED during the Bush years? The "out of control spending" that the right wing loves to whine about was caused by the right wing when they ran the Congress and the White House.

Hey Tracy, Obama told the folks in Oslo that War is sometimes necessary. That he, in fact, was going to give orders that resulted in the death of our soldiers & probably innocent civilians. Any U.S. Prez needs to weigh the threat to AMERICAN Interests against the costs, human & financial, before ordering military action. In my opinion, Obama has thus far done a much better job than his predecessor.

Romney succeeded at everything he did, except convince the American people he could save the country from the failure in the Whitehouse. For that lack of intelligence, the American people will pay a dear price over the next 4 years, just as they have over the last 4 years. Just wait until the disaster called Obamacare kicks in and 20 million Americans lose their existing healthcare thanks to Obama and the Democrats, not to mention the tripled cost of it over the initial lies, I mean projections.
