White House is no dog's life, Bachmann says

(CNN) - If Rep. Michele Bachmann had been elected president, would she have walked Boomer?

The former 2012 presidential candidate and Minnesota Republican said Saturday at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference just outside Washington that the White House is overly lavish, citing several examples including the minder of the presidential pooch.

“We are also the ones who are paying for someone to walk the president’s dog - paying for someone to walk the president’s dog,” she said.

Both she and President Barack Obama are dog owners. Hers is a beagle named Boomer and his is a Portuguese water dog named Bo. Obama bought the dog as a gift for his daughters after winning the White House in 2008.

Bachmann blasted what she called “a lifestyle that is one of excess” with several other claims.

“Now we find out that there are five chefs on Air Force One. There are two projectionists who operate the White House movie theatre,” she said.

She further claimed: “They regularly sleep at the White House in order to be regularly available in case the first family wants a really, really late show. And I don’t mean to be petty here but can’t they just push the play button?”

She invoked the recent White House decision to suspend public tours because of recent forced budget cuts. Republicans have charged that the Obama administration has its priorities backward, but administration officials have said the tour cancelation is an alternative to cutting Secret Service paychecks through furloughs.

“Now why are we doing that when we can’t even get a disabled veteran into the White House for a White House tour,” Bachmann asked.

But, she allowed, the leader of the free world should have a certain level of amenity.

"We all believe that the president and the first family, with all seriousness, do deserve the best security and the very best protection that we can get them,” she said. “They deserve to live in the White House. They deserve to fly on a private plane.”

But perhaps, she said, with fewer chefs.

Ms. Bachmann appears again. She makes statements without providing proof, puts her own spin on news accounts and seems to believe that she know what is going on in the White House every day. She is not necessarily a reliable source.

this nut job will say anything but I bet she would not mind the chefs or the life style. Give it a rest. compared to the last president this one spends less. I guess the repos are running out of things to complain about.

You Republican are the one that lets the Cuts stay without doing anything to stop them. To put It short you Republican wanted these cuts to stay, because you new they would hurt a lot of people and than you can blame the President. The President can't pass bill without Congress passing It first to begin with. He can only Veto a bill, but since No BILL when on his deck he really couldn't do anything but to let these cuts go thought. This hole Mess Is the Republican fault from the start, because the people we elected to Congress are just not doing there Jobs and hasn't for the last two years. Simple fix vote the Republican out of office In 2014.

Then perhaps Bachman should act like a United States Representative and cut the monies that go to the White House. The President does not appropriate those monies. CONGRESS DOES. If Bachman were a serious person and not just an idiot with other idiots listening, then she should would have introduced legislation to cut the White House Budget further than what has already been cut. The President does not control the expenditures in the White House. Bachman and her GOP colleagues do.

The Congresswoman was then heard to mutter, ""If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding.
How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?"

President Obama did not buy Bo as a gift to his daughters as this article states. The late Senator Ted Kennedy gave Bo to the Obamas as a gift.

Did Ms Bachmann state that the First Family was spending over budget? Is the First Family spending over its allocation from Congress?

I thought it was congress that provided for the president's amenities. Didn't George Bush own a dog and enjoy these same amenities for eight years?

Do you think for one minute she would have done anything differently if (God forbid!) she had been elected President? Then all her perceived excesses would have been just fine. After all, she would have needed all the luxury she could get as she repealed Obamacare on day 1.

It never ceases o amaze me how these wackos can criticize President Obama for some of the perks that he his afforded when his Republican predecessors had the SAME perks. Why is it not okay for President Obama? We all know why, don't we!!!!
