(CNN) – Sen. Al Franken, whose previous career was as a comedian and writer, has established himself as a serious lawmaker on Capitol Hill.
But facing a potentially tough re-election fight in 2014, the Minnesota Democrat is enlisting a colleague from his former life to pitch in on raising campaign cash.
Conan O'Brien, who worked with Franken as a writer on Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s and 90s, is raffling tickets to brunch at his home in April, with the contributions going to Franken's re-election effort.
"I'm having my friend Al - and some of his best supporters - over for brunch on Sunday, April 7. And I've got room for you and a friend," O'Brien, who hosts a show on CNN's sister network TBS, wrote in an email to a list of Franken's supporters. "Al's a funny guy, a good friend, and a great Senator who always stands up for Minnesota.
"If you've always wanted to eat eggs with me, well, that's kind of a weird lifelong dream. But this could be your chance to make it come true," O'Brien continued. "I hope to see you and a friend at my place on April 7. Please don't steal any silverware."
i can't believe anyone takes Franken seriously–makes sense another comedian is supporting him....
Star power can go along way. That's what has Mitch McConnell petrified. Run Ashley, run! Sen. Franken deserves to be re-elected. He's proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's more than capable of continuing as the junior senator from Minnesota.
I hope someone smuggles in a camera and catches them on tape berating the GOP as the party of the 1%'ers.
Al Franken is the reason we have Obamacare. Hope you all enjoy it,the final nail in our coffin.....
My Goodness Rudy,
I am a 1%'er. Is that the top or bottom ? If it's the bottom I am there. But, I digress ! Al Frankin for President ! We already have a Comedeian in the White House. Let's go for 2 in a row !
Listening to Franken in committee hearings he has always impressed me with straight on common sense questions and dialog unlike many mostly partisan participants. While his previous career may have been in comedy he seems very serious about his current role.
@ Greg
I absolutely agree!
the GOP doen't mind having comedians like palin ,rush trump raise money. Go for it Conan. You would be much more fun .
Can they find enough ballots in the truck on a car to let Franken win re-election? Probably, then count and recount until he's ahead again, then declare him the winner.
Al Franken has proven to be a lot saner and a lot smarter than any of the Wacko Birds. He's kept a low profile and actually attempted to do his job as a senator instead of pulling publicity stunts and trying to wreck his own party. Hopefully he will be re-elected by enough margin to prevent the stall tactics of 2008.
