Obama gets diplomatic coup before heading to Jordan
Jerusalem (CNN) - President Barack Obama arrived in Jordan on Friday after scoring a diplomatic coup just before leaving Israel when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu phoned his Turkish counterpart to apologize for the Israeli commando raid in 2010 that killed eight Turks and an American of Turkish origin in a Gaza-bound flotilla.
The apology, long sought by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan, could help restore normal relations between Turkey and Israel, two vital U.S. allies in the Middle East.

While that might have been a political coup, it doesn't change the facts.......the Turks shouldn't have made the confrontation, in the FIRST PLACE!
I think PM Netanyahu is trying to hitch a ride on Pres. Obama's coattails. Obama has had a *much* higher approval rating in Israel than Netanyahu, going back almost since when he was sworn in back in 2009. This may anger some of the hard liners, but I think the vast majority of Israelis would approve of an apology. That ship wasn't carrying anything that could have been considered prohibited. The Israelis shot first, and asked questions later.

On a slightly different note, I was watching the news this morning and there was a story about President Obama being heckled in Israel. You just have to love his sense of humor. When he noticed the heckling, he said, " it's alright guys, we paid them to do that." He also said the heckling made him feel right at home!
Our POTUS has a helluva sense of humor!! I just love that man!

It's like talking to someone from another dimension, eh Rudy? The need to bash Obama and defend Israel was so ingrained and programmed into him by the GOP/Teatrolls/neocons, that he just had to invent something about this story, no matter how contrary to reality his fabrication was, that would allow him to bash Obama and claim Israel didn't need to apologize. It's really quite remarkable when you actually get to see that kind of pathology on display.

@Rudy - Really? They knew that this so called aid was going to be turned back. It was an act of provocation. The Hamas run territory could have stopped firing rockets into Israel and pressed for peace. Oh, I'm sorry Hamas doesn't believe that Israel should exist.

So, if they knew it was humanitarian aid, why was the ship boarded in a deliberatoely hostile act? It was not arms that were being sent, it was HUMANITARIAN AID from the one secular Islamic country in the region, and a NATO ally of the US. Learn a little international politics before jumping to conclusions.

I'm sorry, but the Israelis commited the ultimate act of disgrace. They shot first, and asked questions later. Instead of inspecting the cargo, they simply shot it up along with some of the crew members.

You'd think that even a self-styled conservative low-life would have some remnant of self-awareness that would allow him to be too embarrassed to make excuses for those who murder innocents in the act of doing nothing more than providing relief for the sufferings of others. As evidenced this past 4 years ... one doesn't. We offer them up their just dessert and simply vote them out. I really don't think the GOP has yet to understand the anger directed at them. It reminds me of the Terry Schiavo days when they kept patting themselves of the back as they tried to convince us we agreed with them when quite obviously we didn't. Santorum and Company still haven't quite gotten the point that we didn't then, and don't now.
Obama has done a grt job! Did a grt job going 2 the ppl! If west bank goes so goes gaza.
