Obama account retweets Lennon bloody glasses image

(CNN) - The striking image of John Lennon's bloody glasses, tweeted by his widow Yoko Ono on Wednesday, was resent to President Barack Obama's 28 million Twitter followers Thursday as the debate over gun control continues.

The image shows the round lenses splattered with blood and the text: "Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980."

Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman outside the New York City apartment building where he and Ono lived.

Ono later tweeted "The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him."

Obama's Twitter account is run by Organizing for Action, the political group formed from the president's re-election campaign organization. One of its first major initiatives is promoting Obama's gun control proposals, which were unveiled in the aftermath of December's deadly school massacre in Connecticut.

One of the measures Obama advanced – a ban on assault weapons – was not included in a bill introduced by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday. That legislation would expand background checks, improve school safety and restrict gun trafficking.

The entire world misses John Lennon. When Wayne LaPierre and Dick Cheney die, no one in the world will miss them. In fact, we just might break out the champagne.

So are you saying conservative women in America don't have abortions or that abortions are not prevalent in red states???
Of course not. Their (in this case) totalitarian GOP leaders are just making it much, much harder, despite the Supreme Court's decision that abortion ought to be safe and available in Roe v. Wade.

Anyone who is so desperate as to use Yoko Ono to support their argument does not have a valid argument.

You know libs you lost get over it.The AWB is history. The average American said NO.Do you not understand that?
91% of Americans support full background checks
65% of Americans support the AWB

The GOP simply will not be able to continue support organizations as massively unpopular as the NRA forever. As soon as they figure those dudes are costing them votes, the AWB passes.

I think it would've been far more poignant a picture with the no longer existing Twin Towers put behind the glasses.

On a side note, virtually any picture of Yoko turns me off. Add her "singing" "dontworrydon'tworrydon'tworrydon'tworrydon'torrydon'tworry" and its time for me to say adieu, yoko

    Steve- Illinois

    A) The shooter was mentally ill, the libs support the "right" of the mentally ill to not be required to get treatment, or take medication.
Funny, it was Saint Ronnie who turned those folks out. It was also he who signed the first AWB.

A person kills, but that is tempered by their ability to kill. Less guns = less deaths. Most rampages with a knife end up a lot of injured people. Injured and not dead.

Sorry but gun advocates are really just violence advocates. Paranoia creates victims.

If a fire arm can save one person for 1,000,000 dead? Seriously?

Cars have a function besides killing people, otherwise they would be banned immediately, I have no doubt. Guns.. just kill. What are we waiting for?

Mark David Chapman was a manchurian candidate to assinate John Lennon. He was trained by our government to take out an activist who they felt threatened their control. 33 years later, his widow is pandering to the very same government. I hope their son is smarter than that! Wake up people, the revolution is at your doorstep.

I have a solution to the problem that would make both liberals and conservatives happy. Ban all assault weapons in America but package all the assault weapons taken away from the Iraqis and Afghans and ship them to red states. Now, everybody is happy. Problem solved.

"Please post an example of a criminal using a military-grade weapon to "dismember" school kids. Pease keep in mind that an AR-15 is NOT a military-grade weapon, it is a semi-automatic rifle not found in the Military's inventory"

The AR-15 was actually recommended over the M-16 by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (project AGILE) during Vietnam because of the massive wounds soldiers were reporting it to make. It was considered to be an excellent "universal" weapon for infantry. The reason for the wounding was that the .223 round's velocity and construction were causing it to fragment upon impact.

Interesting...the FBI hounded Lennon and Yoko for years because the administration didn't like their message. What was their message? "All we are saying is give peace a chance. "
What a hypicrite whoever is tweeting for the president is. They want to use Lennons death to push gun control while the wars rage on and new ones begin. That's certainly not in keeping with Lennon's theory that PEACE should be sold like detergent. All day long, every day.
This administration can't even be peaceful with it's own citizens. Look at how they busted up Occupy Wall Street. Then there's the 2700 tanks, 1.6 billion hollow point bullets, drones, FEMA camps and 7000 assault weapons they've bought for use in the states.
Lennon is probably rolling in his grave. I hope Yoko sees the hypocracy.

"Please post an example of a criminal using a military-grade weapon to "dismember" school kids."

And before I forget: The children at Sandy Hook were dismembered and it is proven that the shooter used the AR-15 to accomplish it. It hardly helps your argument to claim that their dismemberment was accomplished by a "non-military" weapon, as if it being "non-military" somehow magically makes it less dangerous or capable fo dismembering people.

The average American did not say "no" to the AWB. The NRA said it, and the Republicans obliged them. Polls show that 85% of Americans want an assault weapons ban.

If the South had no guns, we wouldn't have fough a civil war and the slaves would have been freed anyway. And a whole lot more confederates would still be alive today. O' wait...

So, CNN has a gay rights and gun control story front and center, with Obama's Middle East trip tucked neatly away because its been a diplomatic disaster. Its amazing that the people of the Middle East hate America more now than they did when Bush was President...looks like Hillary Clinton and Obama get a big fail for all the wonderful things they claim over there.

Proof again that obama is scraping the bottom of the barrel for anything to advance his agenda on guns.
We need a leader and what did we get. A divider and campaigner.
The liberals won't be happy until they get total control of everything, including taking away your right to keep and bear arms that is as of yet a right of every American citizen that is mentally stable and not a criminal.

When I was a boy I wanted a 22 rifle and my dad who spent 30 years in the Army and most of WW2 in the Pacific with MacArthur said it best... "Guns are tools and their purpose is death. We don't need one in this house. If you want to shoot a gun, wait til your ready and join the service"... he had seen what they do and fifty years later his words still ring true..The United States would be better off today with the outlawing of all firearms and even amending the 2nd amendment.. Like slavery, guns are from another era and their time is past....

Uhh, 5.56 (the round the M-16 shoots) is nearly identical to .223, generally loaded just a little "hotter". FYI. I don't think there were any actual AR-15's in Viet Nam–zero. I'd be interested to see data that supported that.

The AR-15/M-16 is an excellent "universal" weapon for military, police, and civilian protection. It's easy to shoot accurately, readily modified to suit the application, and has low recoil for less-able shooters.
