Bachmann's presidential campaign under investigation by congressional ethics panel

Washington (CNN) - Former GOP 2012 presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann's campaign is under investigation by an independent ethics panel on Capitol Hill, according to a statement from an attorney representing Bachmann.

William McGinley, a partner at Patton Boggs, a Washington law firm, released a statement to CNN on Monday confirming a story that first appeared in the Daily Beast that the Office of Congressional Ethics is looking into the Minnesota congresswoman's presidential campaign.

But McGinley insists Bachmann did nothing wrong.

"There are no allegations that the congresswoman engaged in any wrongdoing. We are constructively engaged with the OCE and are confident that at the end of their Review the OCE Board will conclude that Congresswoman Bachmann did not do anything inappropriate," McGinley said in a written statement to CNN.

According to the Daily Beast, several former Bachmann campaign workers are being interviewed about the potential improper transfer of campaign funds. One of those quoted in the article, Peter Waldron, is a former campaign aide who filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging that Bachmann's illegally used money from her political action committee to pay a campaign consultant.

The Office of Congressional Ethics is a separate entity set up in 2008 as a nonpartisan panel to screen potential instances of misconduct by members of the House of Representatives. If OCE decides a matter warrants additional review if can refer it to the House Ethics Committee, which determines whether an official investigation will be launched.

As is the custom, the Office of Congressional Ethics declined to comment on whether it was reviewing any alleged impropriety by Bachmann.

Michelle Bachmann is a terrible cancer. America recognizes that she has no ethics, no credibility, and will exploit any means for personal gain. Americans need to see her removed from politics, AND punished for her illegal activities.

Might I suggest you folks on the right start working on improving your own party before you stumble around pointing fingers at others? The GOP is in absolute shambles right now and could use some adult supervision. The sooner, the better.

Yeah, I know. Limbaugh thinks otherwise.

Bachmann has become such a big distraction to her own party that they have decided to launch investigations to get rid of her. She is a walking, talking, political disaster that no one wants to associate with.

She doesn't strike me as very bright – so nothing would surprise me.

It is probably the gop that started this inquiry...why would the democrats...she is comedy relief for them. For the republicans she is an embarassment.

I'm not sure what Bachmann's people did ... but unless they used campaign funds to traffic drugs or involve themselves in human trafficking, then I'll just say that I know whatever they did might be technically illegal, but it was done with funds freely given by choice to Bachmann's campaign. I think it strange that what Biden has recently done is legal ... as a bully rich elite class, he was involved in what is apparently the standard among such who boss this country around, they take taxpayer money (in that people don't freely give, but that money is taken from them) and then they go on these lavish and wasteful trips where they rack up million dollar bills in just a few days. That's much, much worse ... and there is no congressional probe into that? It's because the one's who do the probing and making the decisions are right there in the thick of it. This is a messed up country where the leaders feel entitled to such wastefulness at the taxpayer's expense.

I would love to see her sued for libel/slander for the vile lies that she perpetuates everywhere. She is absolutely without morals. She is an embarassment to her state, her party, and to women in general.

Be careful or she may cast a spell on you. How on earth did this nutbag ever get elected to any public office?

And yet the Republicans reelect her, what does that tell you about the Republican party.

Biden is the Vice President. Period.
None of his trips are illegal. But that's the GOP way, as soon as you are accused of something, immediately start rattling on about something that has absolutely nothing to do with nothing.

how did she ever get elected? Because there must be plenty of 'nut jobs' in Minnesota. This woman lives on the mental edge.

Bachmann is on Obama's hit list. You had to expect that, the Dem socialists would be going after anything at all, they can find, to impact on her keeping her seat.

That's what dictators do......they eliminate those who oppose them.
Karl Rove et. al. would dearly love it if the GOP had a much larger base from your exact demographic. But sadly, old Karl discovered the mindless, intolerant, bigoted, poorly-informed right-wing too small to win the general election. Tough times are ahead for the rich folks who need votes from lower-income drones.

Well, I cannot claim to be surprised. Crooks hang with crooks. If she is innocent, then okay. If not, then let us rember the twit is desparately trying to begin another McCarthy Era but this time instead of "communists" she will crucify any "closet muslims" . So I would like to see this crone get kicked out. She is an embarassment to the GOP. Now, let us remember that the GOP and the Dems have a way of covertly throwing their own to the lions when they proved to be more of a liability than an asset. Keep an eye out, folks, Boehner is next (in a bloodless coup by Cantor and his smarmy toadies). We are about to see ALOT of these things. They no longer can kick out Obama so the wolves that have invaded this party are turning on each other. Political bloodbaths ahead. Sorry, had alot to say 🙂

Michelle Bachmann continuously spews out so much misinformation (lies, actually), that she deserves some scrutiny. She doesn't get her facts straight, so I'm sure she doesn't get much else right either.

Michelle Bachmann has simply outlived her usefullness. Her hatred is no longer needed as Barack Obama will be leaving the WH in Jan. 2017.

They liked her for one reason. She hated President Obama and was very vocal about it. She was a hit at Tea Party rallies. She could froth up the crowd easily. You know they loved the "attractive white female" spouting nonsense about "the big black Kenyan, Muslim, socialist".

You gotta love how the GOP turns on it's own and quick. Shades of Herman Cain.....

Bachmann needs to concentrate on voting for what is right for the country along with other hate filled Republican's. Maybe we all would benefit from bipartisan legislation. Do what is right.
