Jim Carrey mocks Charlton Heston

(CNN) – Charlton Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands" provides the punch line for comedian Jim Carrey's new video mocking the late actor and NRA president.

Carrey, who appears on a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw" both as Heston and as the frontman of a country-western band "Lonesome Earl And The Clutterbusters," is a vocal proponent of stricter gun control laws.

"Charlton Heston movies are no longer in demand, and his immortal soul may lay forever in the sand. The angels wouldn't take him up to heaven like he planned, because they couldn't pry the gun from his cold dead hand," Carrey sings in the video, which was posted Monday on the comedy website Funny or Die.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

He famously used the line mocked in Carrey's video during a 2000 speech to NRA members, going specifically after then-Vice President Al Gore, who was running for president at the time.

"As we set out this year to defeat the divisive forces that would take freedom away, I want to say those fighting words for everyone within the sound of my voice to hear and to heed, and especially for you, Mr. Gore: 'From my cold, dead hands!" Heston declared.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

Carrey said in a statement that he found America's rash of gun violence "frustrating" and the video was "my fun little way of expressing that frustration."

So when the repukes and gun lovers are taunted with a taste of reality then its always the "libs". But when its their turn to insult everyone else then is "right" and the "American way".

Society goes forward, and repukes stay in their caves.

Wow, Jim Carrey has really gone over the edge. Is this the price you pay for success? So out of touch with reality, and anti-science on top of that. It's a shame.

I can not and will not ever see Jim Carrey as funny. He is an idiot acting human. You could drive a tank into his mouth. He is not good enough to shine Mr. Heston boots much less make fun of him. I have not watched (a complete movie), will not ever watch any of his so called entertaining movies or t.v. appearances. UGH!!!!!

In essence. Charleston had the 1st amendment right to say what he said and Jim Carrey had the 1st amendment right to say what he said.

Not quite sure who cares what Jim Carrey thinks – he's just an idi ot who makes money making funny faces. Without luck he'd probably be serving hamburgers at some dive.

I am for stricter gun control as long as the liberals agree to more restrictive control on all possible weapons of homicide. If background checks are required for guns, they should also be required for hammers, kitchen knives, shovels, rope, all motor vehicles, gasoline and other accelerants, plastic bags, all forms of poison, scissors, pens and pencils, bricks, tire tools, crowbars, big dogs, etc.

Lets examine this; An actor becomes a political spokesman and uses his fame to forward a divisive agenda. Now some say that he shouldn't be spoofed because he's dead? Now that's funny!

Don't pass background checks and don't regulate the sales of assault weapons cause you're violating the second amendment rights of Americans. Don't take my guns away, I have to defend myself against criminals with guns. Dumb right wing coward incompetent fools.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Although terribly tragic the Sandy Hook murders were paraded in front of the public, by the anti-gun politicians, so much that they no longer have the shock value. Now their like minded Hollywood activists want to re-awaken the horror by publishing photos of the young dead bodies. Leave it to the ban the gun fanatics to pose this morbid idea. Jim Carry, a Canadian is trying to re-kindle a dying career as a second rate actor by impugning the memory of a great actor who's most remembered for playing Moses. Surely even this simple minded soul can come up with a better way to get in the news than attacking the values of a deceased icon of the movie industry. On the other hand maybe not.

Poor Jim hasn't done anything relevant in a couple decades so he's seeking new ways to get attention. If only he could find meaningful work like his armed bodyguards.

I love how Diane Feinstein, with her statement of supporting gun bans, just put a record additional guns into the hands of the people. Have murder rates gone up proportionately with the increase in gun sales?
Banning guns gives criminals more unarmed victims. How stupid and ignorant do you need to be to not get that?

Yeah lets control guns because nobody wants to do what is right which is to help those individuals whose challanges have lead to these deaths. It is easier to deal with objects than human beings. Heck we can't enforce the laws we currently have let alonce any new ones thay enact. Oh yeah its also not funny to mock someone with a disorder but we can mock dead people that don't believe that same as we do.

  22. Canadian Carrey Dumps on the 2nd Amendment

My father was murdered by a couple Canadian punks let out of Canadian prison early. They brought guns to wyoming from Canada and killed my father. They didn't seem care about Canadian gun laws or any other laws . . . so Jim get your head out of you rear and get out of hollywood before it eats your soul.

By the way, Charlton Heston was right and you're just a liberal hollywood idiot. Gun laws just keep guns out of law abiding citizens' hands, not the criminals.

lets see "stop babies from being vaccinated" 1121 deaths in 6 years, so what is that a sandyhook a month, maybe we need to start restricting the first amendment to keep idiots like this from killing babies, after all are we not trying to protect the kids?
