Carrey calls conservative media critics 'bullies'

(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.

The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"

Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.

"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.

"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Who is Jim Carrey kidding??? Charlton Heston starred in "the Planet of the Apes, Ben Hur & The ten Commandments." Jim Carrey is best known for starring in Ace Ventura pet detective and dumb and dumber.

Yes, they say that Jim Carrey is a comedian and Heston was often cast as Old White Guy.

Notice how few conservatives fail to mention that Heston's "cold dead hands" speech occurred in Colorado shortly after the Columbine murders where the two teen killers had bought weapons at a swap meet Heston was fighting to keep legal. Before anyone feels sorry for Carrey "denigrating" Heston, think about how Heston denigrated himself. Heston's ruined The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, etc. for me by being such a jerk.

My favorite Carrey movie is Dumb and Dumber. He could have played both parts.

So many comments here are about actors who should stick to acting. With that same criteria it would have been much better if Heston, Reagan, and Schwarzenegger would have done the same.

They are bullies because they are paid to be by their big ticket lobbyists. Without this money they would be like chirping chicks.

Carrey has disgraced the right wing. Not that they had very far to go...

Whoa! Looks like Mr. Carrey IS concerned about what FOX news says. When you resort to slurs like he spewed, it just proves that he doesn't have an argument. He's just a Class 'C' actor anyway.

Shooting the messenger doesn't change what he is saying or what millions believe.

You tell them Jim.... it is true enough. They are whining cryers. It is good to hear someone standing up to them. Listen to them cry. That just means you are sticking it to them. Cry on contards. Your tears are like sweet sweet whine to the Frenchman.

Mr. Carrey......I challenge you to watch the FoxNews primetime programs then the next day watch MSNBC.....The first you will observe discussion of viewpoints on policies with representative from both side – yes with a non-liberal slant. The latter will be vile, demeaning diatribe of personal account without opposing opinion. Must be nice to debate oneself.....And by the way, since when is trying to live a high standard considered extreme?

He is absolutely right. I totally support him and I will be watching his movies. I especially like the colostomy bag analogy.

Hypocrite, plain and simple. Get rid of your armed bodyguard before trashing the right of self defense to those that cannot afford one.

Im not fan of Jim Carrey, but the Goebbels-wannabe propagandists at Fox deserve the sharp end of *anybody's* wit.

He's a last resort kinda-sorta actor who's movies are fit for the trash can. Remind me to boycott anything that he is even remotely associated with. If the Communist Hollywood excrement got their way, America would be like Cuba
and there would only be only one heavily-censored Communist media organization in the whole country. Would that make Mr. Carrey happy?

There is a saying about how individuals are measured by the quality of thee opponents they have. How can anyone take any organization seriously if that organization decides that a comedian (that is famous for doing a bit in which he pretends his butt is speaking) is a worthy opponent?

Carey may be against guns, but he sure isn't afraid to unleash bombs at the box office. Did anyone see "Burt Wonderstone" besides his family?

Why would 20 dead or 20 million for that matter cuase me to disarm myself or create any law that prevents my children from arming and defending themselves? This makes no sense.

All those who lament that liberal "movie stars" do not belong in a serious discourse conveniently ignore Ronald Reagan and Fred Thompson's professional affiliations. Those who ask Jim Carrey and Michael J Fox to return to Canada, forget that the Australian Murdoch bankrolls Fox news. There is a stronger need for liberal bias in our media for the simple reason that conservatives by definition stand for the statu- quo which in many of cases is basically against American values. Be it equal opportunity to vote, or to marry outside your race, or to chose not to believe in a deity, and scores of other issues, if it were not for liberal media, our country's greatness would have been extremely limited. So if you are a "real American", you should thank the fact that our media is liberal and that conservatives are traitors to the very idea of America. Remember, the founding fathers were liberals, and the conservatives wanted to stay under the British regime.

While I do not particularly care for the NRA and I absolutely detest Fox News, Jim Carrey's recent video was ghoulish and tasteless. I really do not have any respect for him any longer.

You can scream and cry all you want. Carrey is right and I agree with him. You can go after him or you can come after me. There's lots of us. More of us than you. Deal with it.
