Carrey calls conservative media critics 'bullies'

(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.

The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"

Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.

"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.

"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Carrey didnt attack Heston the actor – he attacked Heston the politician. If he wanted to attack Heston the actor he would have brough up "Solar Crisis".

I've been a fan of Jim Carrey's for 20+ years as he's one of the FEW TRUE comedic talents left in what's become almost amateur hour in Hollywood. But, in this instance- he's completely wrong. Nearly 50% of the nation agrees with the majority of the views of Fox News- including myself– and I'm NOT a conservative. The point is that he is alienating lots of his fans- as did Tom Hanks – who was also in the category of FEW TRUE talents– and, at this point, I wouldn't support any movie or show they are in or product they endorse. People who make their living based on selling their talents to as many people as possible – ESPECIALLY AS THEY GET OLDER AND RECEIVE LESS OPPORTUNITIES- should NOT be alienating 50% of their customer base. Dumb Move, Jim Carrey.

Just watch Bowling for Columbine again....Heston is sooo rude and unforgetable as a gun nut who just doesn't care about anyone else's belief.....that's the problem with the NRA – they don't care safety, children, opposing views and their tired old second amemendment rights rhetoric is obsolete! I gladly support Jim Carey in running for political office – he will win more votes than Sarah Palin ever did!

Chris, the US population would significantly dewindle if all those who desagree with you have to leave the country. By the way, the green back has been trading below many other currencies including the Canadian dollar on and off for quite some time.

Jim is spot on. It's always the same cultish behavior with these ridiculously conservative, 18th century reincarnates. Using any opportunity they can to whine and cry like the martyrs they are to push their stiff, unwavering, outdated views. Rush Limpballs says horrible things about Ted Kennedy to this day and you conservative nut-bags say nothing about that do ya? Now I'm spot on!

Have you ever noticed how moderate & liberal views commonly are posed with logical arguments in proper syntax with correct spelling, but that the most virulant, illogical rants, fraught with language & spelling errors, mostly express ill-considered hyper-conservative views? And commonly these ranters stigmatize those with whom they disagree as 'elitists,' for employing logic and proper English. Jim Carrey is spot on and expressed himself with brilliant wit. You go Jim!

The NRA has drifted from a reasonable organization of gun sportsmen to an ultra right wing shill for the gun industry. Its board members in many cases own or work for gun manufactorers and sellers. It has lost all credibility in its stupid stands against reasonable gun regulations like high capcity magazine and universal gun sales checks. No one wants to ban all guns, get real folks and help protect kids from the NRA's idiocy. Thanks Jim for taking a stand, that takes balls, hoarding assult weapons does not.

The skit was pure genius and one of the funniest things I've seen in years. Those who can't laugh surely shouldn't even think about owning guns.

Jim Carrey has made me laugh many many times. No gun could ever do that.

Gun wackos are bullies. Read these posts for proof. They are in the minority, but think that making more noise will make it appear that they are in the majority. Thanks for the breath of fresh air Jim. It's not easy standing up to these loud mouthed bullies.

Mr. Heston views were flipping to match his increasingly nicer bank account. A true chameleon who looked respectable.

He used to be a convinced democrat, and when talking about his childhood, he recalled that his dad used to be a poor worker in a sawmill.

As he became wealthier, his family history changed (his dad was "involved in family business"), and he moved from liberal Democrat to conservative Republican.

And as his public persona carried enough weight, he managed to reach into NRA's internal politics. So his stance on guns changed too, from a guy who fought for gun control measures (1968) he became against gun control (after 1980s).

His civil right stance changed similarly self-serving, from a civil rights supporter to a theatrical supporter of human rights (a simple facade), and an enemy of multiculturalism. Despite his beautiful voice, what a fake!!

My issue is JIm calling on the "conservative media" which is but maybe some 5% of the media industry. For this issue or any other the phrase "conservative media bullying" is absurd. Look at the state of the union as a society, the 95%of the LIBERAL Madia has manipulated society to fit any immorality,it all goes. Think about it, two man together is nauseating. Two man raising an adopted boy is freaking diabolic. Jim Carrey agreeing to such immorally demonic behavior is normal in his and all liberals dislodged reality. In essence humanity in rebellion against The Holy Creator. A gentle God now, a fierce jjudge on his coming to rule the earth with an iron fist. Every knee will bow to the mention of his name, including all dead liberals.

    Jim Carrey is spot on!!!!

Five republican senators have already informed Senate leader Harry Reid that they would filibuster any gun violence control legislation, including closing background check loopholes! The republicans have gone over the edge. Whatever happened to the republican's staunch support of law enforcement? There was a time when they would have argued that semi-automatic weapons of any kind was unacceptable because it would put our law enforcement officers at a deadly disadvantage!!!

Conservative bullies? Oh, he must be referring to any attempts to obtain information about the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi after King Obama ignored requests for assistance. Or any attempts to obtain information about Fast and Furious. How dare ANYONE question Obama. All hail the king!

Carey is not a comedian, he's a clown, and a liberal one at that. I suppose his type reside on the fair and balanced MSNBC. I'm sure they'll be chomping at the bit to get him on to spew his hate filled idiotic logic.

Why don't we simply honor Heston by naming each massacre after him? The Charlton Heston 2012 school massacre, the Charlton Heston 2012 Theater massacre, etc. I think the self-aggrandizing blow-hard would have liked it.
