Carrey calls conservative media critics 'bullies'

(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.

The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"

Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.

"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.

"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Fox News at least will show what the great liberals have done because the other news networks are afraid to. At least msnbc will admit being to the left. Not like the CNN cult club that says their straight down the line. Kind of goes with Jim C. Liar liar don't it!

Jim Carrey is far too optimistic. Fox News appeals to narrow minded, misogynist, ultranationalists who prefer simplistic explanations that stroke their quite justified fear that the world has moved beyond them. Their mentality is essentially fascist. These sorts of people will always exist, and there will always be media that caters to them.

Hypocrite! Jim Carrey owns guns and has bodyguards who protect him that armed to the gills.

This country is being held back by the NRA and the Republicans like the banks could care less about the customer or in the Republicans case the American people. When thsy learn about me they will think Jim Carey is Pinky Lee in tights trying to breathe but like a battery breathing in Oxygen and breathing out Carbon Dioxide. I am sure I am over everyone's head but when you go to my website you will begin to learn how the world will change forever in spite of the Republics act like spoiled brats. They need to grow up like and act like adults that care about the people of our may never happen and after losing election after election and seats in both the house and senate perhaps they will learn but probably not in our lifetime.

Well done, Jim....spoken like the vast majority of liberals who feel free speech means only free speech if you think, talk, act, and sound like a bleeding heart liberal.

Yawn... Jim is getting exactly what he wanted – people to talk about him so he is relevant and can get another movie deal doing his fire marshall bill impersonation. Bored. Moving on. Nothing to see here.

Nothing new here. Liberals always mock and degrade those who do not agree with them. Republicans make up things to to try to get people to agree with them. I've been saying for a while...Liberals are just as bad at not accepting reality as Republicans are at making up their own.

People he's a comedian for christ's sake. He's not really downing Charlton. It's not like he said something so offensive as, for example, "Let's dig up Charlton and use him for soylent green". Comedians have an artistic license to make us laugh, if they are good. I totally agree with Jim about Fux News. They are the most biased, slanted, one sided news organization ever created. They have the viewpoint that "we are going to follow Rupert no matter what". That's why Fux News does not have the best people working there.

Jim Carrey rails on "conservative media bullies", but what about him? He is not using his fame to try to strong arm the gum industry, and politicians?

    What a tool!

Carrey says we need gun control to "save our kids". Quite hypocritical from someone who hails from Canada, where abortion on demand is the law of the land. So, a minute before a baby is born, its ok to kill it. However, shoot it with a gun a minute after its born..."crazy gun nuts! Save our children!" Hypocrite loser.

CNN omits Hestons endeavor into civil rights 1963 – before JFK even – but that would be too much to ask from this lame ted turner propaganda machine

Wah! Wah! Wah! All of the other media outlets are shamefully extreme left so I guess Fox News would seem extreme right. Fortunately no one cares about a has-been's opinion.

I'm assuming he meant "faux" news. For goodness sake if he doesn't have the intelligence to get that correct then why would I listen to anything else he says. Also, I support his freedom of speech to make that song/video, why can he not support the media's freedom of speech to disagree with what he says?

Funny how righties whine about "their" rights, but when someone exercises their rights of Free Speech the righties get mad.

I used to really like Jim Carrey. Don't think I can say so any more, especially when he claims his opinion is the only one that is right and good for the public. He's an actor, and his life has not really lent credibility that he is right nor necessarily a good example, especially lately.

if a wheel comes of a car and kills a innocent by stander you can sue the manufacture ,the same with gun manufacture,s if a bullet comes out and kills a innocent by stander they should get sued to...

However, if the driver of a car either accidentally or deliberately drives over you and kills you, the driver is sued, not the car manufacturer.

    Do I Have This Right?
Mr Jim makes fun of someone who's dead, (Hestorn was a reputable, skilled, moral actor-Can't remember him mocking deceased folks, calling others names, etc), Calls people who disagree with his views names, belittles them, and then in truly honorable behavior–calls them bullies?
    O.K Jim,
    we ALL love you......

I'm all for background checks IF the records of the mentally ill are let back into the public record AND enforcement of the law is both permitted and followed. As presented, the only people hassled are law abiding citizens. The bad guys will continue to get guns illegally and the mentally ill can continue to get guns legally. Guns aren't the biggest problem, political correctness and over sensitivity to the bad guys' rights are.

Sadly Jim Carrey proves himself to be the typical Hollyweird prima dona! He feels that only his opinion has basis, and that only his words have value. He bashes the memory of Charleton Heston's beliefs without concern for the impact of his words. When, on the other hand, somebody responds to Mr. Carrey in kind, Jim Carrey cries foul! Jim Carrey is the typical bully, he is a petulant child who can dish it out but is unable to take criticism.
