Carrey calls conservative media critics 'bullies'

(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.

The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"

Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.

"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.

"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Carrey is spot on. Americans are tired of the single mindedness of the NRA, Grover Norquist, and Faux News. America's best interests are no longer served by Def, Dumb and Dumber. Time to move on.

Carrey didnt mock Heston the actor – he mocked Heston the politician. If he wanted to mock Heston as an actor he would have brought up the movie "Solar Crisis".

Old Chuck Heston made a fool and a parody of himself by his foaming-at-the-mouth appearances at NRA functions. It's too bad that a once decent actor let himself sink to such gutter dwelling depths, but perhaps he was even then developing dementia. Someone should make fun of the NRA because they are a bunch of detestable clowns taking blood money from the gun industry. Wayne LaPierre is utter ludicrous in his rabid defense of perpetual slaughter.

Mr. Carrey, you are an astute observer of pseudo-journalistic propagandists. Now, if they would only just crawl back under their rocks.

It's kind of ironic to hear Carrey rail against the intolerance of the bully conservative media as he simultaneously spins his hateful rang and refers to them as a colostomy bag. That's pretty much the sort of hypocrisy I've come to expect from his ilk.

Reason T.V.s response to this goofball was fantastic. Actors are as dumb as politicians.

Jim Carey is an imbecile and obviously thinks because he's an actor that people care what he thinks and says. You're just an actor Jim and not too intelligent!

It only makes sense that someone with a 12-year-old's mentality and humor would have a 12-year-old's political view.

This is a man who offends half of America and makes fun of a dead actor, then acts like he's offended. Shut up Jim Carrey. You are not funny. This all comes from a man whose best acting was on a movie called Dumb and Dumber.

Carrey is a one trick pony trying to be relevant. Unfortunately for him.......but fortunately for us.........there s a limit to roles which require the actor to be constantly pulling stupid faces.

You don't have to be a conservative or even guns right advocate to say that skit just wasn't funny. Why can't hollywood mega millionaires just be quiet about politics and sing and dance for us. They're they all singing all dancing crap of the world, stay that way. Jeez.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." Keyword here is starred, past tense. The Canadian hasn't starred in anything in quite some time. I guess this gives him some publicity. The wonderful thing about USA television is if you don't like the station you can change the channel. He most certainly has a right to express his opinion, but it's pretty pathetic that he has to pick on a dead man.

Carrey has to man up. If you are willing to take on an issue, expect SOMEONE to disagree with you. Whining about the fact EVERYONE doesn't agree with you is NOT very manly or mature. I guess he is not man enough for the job. Mr. Heston was man enough to stand up and say what he believed in. Carrey just wants to revive his dying career it seems.
