Carrey calls conservative media critics 'bullies'

(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.

The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"

Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.

"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.

"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Who cares...this is coming from a guy who got famous stealing max headroom, a 1980's computer AI. Celebrities are so dumb, keep making crappy movies and mind your own business~ And lastly, i'm sure he's ok with taking everyones guns but still having some of his own for his bodyguards.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up the entire conservative movement.

Why in the world is anyone paying any attention to the mouthings of this third-rate actor?

Why does ANYONE give Jim Carrey credibility of any kind? This is the guy who dressed up as a half incinerated Fire marshall, as a female body builder, and as one half of Dumb and Dumber. This loon is only looking to create some sort of media frenzy because his career is in the toilet.

"bullies" is a strange word for someone to use when he has been "mocking" the dead-he really has no shame and it would be very difficult to find anything comical in his words when he made the remarks and mocked M.r Heston or for that matter at any time

Carrey, CNN and the American public would do well to remember that Charleton Heston was part of the civil rights movement and joined Martin Luther King in the 1963 march on Washington. One might also note that Jim Carrey uses very un-cool language. In another brilliant stand, Carrey has come out against polio vaccine.

Conservatives media critics ARE bullies – and a bunch of whiny children to boot! Wish we could vote them all out ...

Was Carrey ever actually funny? I cannot recall, since I'd forgotten about him until this stunt. What an idiot.
I'll always be a Heston fan. All I will remember about Carrey and most of Hollyweird is their intolerance and irrelevance.

Jim Carrey was once considered funny a decade or two slapstick, bathroom humor.
He hasn't been relevant for quite a while now – so who cares what he says about anything.

yup Fox News is far right. But does that mean MSNBC and CNN are presenting truth? No way. All of them are knuckleheads....but to mess with Mr Heston? That is disrespect. Guns,,,there are issues. But ABORTION kills thousands of children everyday here in the USA....but that is ignored.

Carrey has ruined his career and has no other way to vent his horrible acting than trying to take our 2nd Amendment rights away stars do this when their careers wane.

Looks like Jim should stick to reading humor that people write for him. On his own and trying to be political is obviously a disaster. What a bummer.

Pots and kettles Mr. Carrey. Liberals are just as guilty, the same rhetoric could be said about MSNBC. It is funny that the party of "tolerance" is ANYTHING but tolerant. Btw, isn't "tolerance" the amount of poison that you can absorb before it kills you?

Charlton Heston was also at the forefront of the civil rights movement. Hollywood seems to frequently forget that.
