Carrey calls conservative media critics 'bullies'

(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.

The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"

Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.

"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.

"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Jim Carrey is a comic genius! I loved the piece. I enjoyed Charlton Heston, the actor but did not appreciate his views on guns. Regardless of my beliefs Mr. Heston had every right to voice his views however, if you going to take such a strong stand on an issue so many feel passionately about, you are opening yourself up to comic jabs.

JIm Carrey admits he uses ARMED bodyguards. ARMED as in they carry guns on their person. What a total fraud.

If you listen to Carrey for any reason then you need to be influenced by Kim Jong Un & move to North Korea. Carrey is a HollyWood liberal creation and bears no resemblence to an average American...Carrey has led his life in the role of a bully in his personal life so what makes you think he has changed?
Do like the rest of us and don't spend any money on his movies.
Heston was a really good person to have been a product of HollyWood, Jim is not and can only speak to the dead of HollyWood for fear that the living will affect his pocket book...immediately as in HollyWood BULLY style!!!

Carrey needs to look into the mirror, and see the truth.

Maybe jim carey ought to direct his attention on the importance of having people with good morales and respect for their fellow man that have firearms for protecting themselves and their families as well as the sporting aspect/ his .attack on charleton heston was foolish when mr heston only represented those who believe in the freedom of those who own and use their firearms within the laws and are not criminals / it would be best if jim carey would go back to doing what he does best and that is B movies and let knowledgable people do what they know is best / how bout it mr Dumb and Dumber!

So this is what you think of Fox News? I have to wonder what you would think of a washed up, has been actor that jumps on the bandwagon of such an important topic as gun control to get his face back in the spotlight. You lost your credibility when you made a video mocking Charlton Heston and then released a statement about Fox News.

Personally, I don't care what people think of my opinion as I'm not out to change anyone's mind. But if you want to be taken seriously, name calling and personal insults probably won't convince anyone but the most ardent supporters of a topic.

hmmm...look at the language this tool uses. SO many bully buzz phrases I lost count. "Fux news"? "So called journalists"? "media colostomy bag"? "nothing more than a giant culture fart"? How about they (and I ) are just people who happen to have a different view than YOU, you "bully". Carrey, you're wrong on this one. Your video was racist, bigoted, ignorant, and unfunny all at the same time. That's all.

More wisdom from Jim Carrey who thinks vaccines cause autism. Thanks for another nugget of wisdom. Hollywood is just filled with intellectuals.

Yeah, well, I call Carrey a stupid jerk without any humor or ability to convey humor. He's trying to be relevant in a world that is relegating him to obsurity. Say goodby Jim!

Jim, you used to be funny. Then you started sitting in a small area of your house thinking you had to be more important than you are. You mock Charleton Heston, a dead man, and call others bullies. Please study a little more history and understand why we have the right to bear arms. Then try to go back to your roots and make people laugh instead of feeling sorry for you.

God help us all! Another blowhard actor who thinks that by virtue of his profession, he has enhanced credibility outside of it. Your 'opinion' is no more valid than mine, or anybody else. Stick to what you do best and otherwise just go away. If you don't see any value in something, avoid it – something I'm now going to do with your movies.

Hey Jim, go back to Canada; we have enough on our plates now.
We don't need your infant humor to educate us on a serious problem.

He's just trying to be SIGNIFICANT again; it's NOT working Son.

Jim, if you can read this, give up. You're fighting against a tidal-wave of crap. If you don't like guns, get two toilet-paper tubes and look through them for the rest of your life, because you have some serious tunnel-vision. I don't know how he's even relevant any more, he was an actor, right? B-list?

Jim wouldnt have the courage to disagree with Heston to his face if he were alive. If you read about the life of charleton heston, you will will find words like WWii veteran northwestern university and oscar. For jim you will find drug addiction dropout and ace ventura.

Anyone who takes Jim Carrey seriously ... as either a political philosopher or an actor ... has a single-digit IQ.
