Carrey calls conservative media critics 'bullies'

(CNN) - Jim Carrey's video mocking the late actor and National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston didn't please some conservatives - not that Carrey himself minds.

The video, a spoof version of the old comedy show "Hee Haw," featured Carrey playing both Heston and the leader of a country-western group, mocking Heston's declaration that gun control advocates would have to pry his firearms "from my cold, dead hands"

Conservative pundits claimed Carrey was inappropriately denigrating Heston, who died in 2008. Taking particular aim at, presumably, Fox News - the spelling below is his - Carrey responded to the critics Friday.

"In my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue," Carrey wrote in a statement.

"I sincerely believe that in time, good people will lose patience with the petty and poisonous behavior of these bullies and Fux News will be remembered as nothing more than a giant culture fart that no amount of Garlique could cure," he continued.

Heston, who died in 2008, rose to fame as an actor in movies like "The Ten Commandments" and "Ben-Hur." Later in life, however, he turned his attention to political advocacy, eventually becoming the president of the National Rifle Association from 1998-2003.

Carrey starred in movies like "Ace Ventura Pet Detective" and "The Mask." He actively argues his case for gun control on Twitter @JimCarrey.

A spokeswoman for Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Have you ever noticed that when an limited in talent actor's career is not going anywhere, they will do or say something stupid or weird, just to get themselves some "face time" on the news? What a classless jerk!

So the conservative media are bullies, what does that make Carrey for ridiculing and mocking a dead person that can’t defend themself.

I am a conservative who could not care less. Jim is just using his outlet to express his free speech rights. Not saying I agree with him, but the video is funny. Heston was a great man who would have appreciated a little poke...

Carrey is such a "has been." He'll even try dogging a famous actor to get another 15 minutes of fame again.

Carrey is a washed-up actor, he needs Obama's support.

No one could spoof Heston better than Heston himself. The whole cold, dead hands line was the worst bit of overacting I've ever seen. I think that Moses role got into his head or something.

Imagine that- a Canadian-born Hollywood ultra-liberal resorting to denigrating name-calling rather than relying on facts to carry his message. Wait- was there a message? I don't believe so- only that he's a creepy perv (remember the Emma Stone video he created/posted?) with an agenda against all Americans who have conservative leanings.
Send him packing back to Canada if he wants to enjoy his socialist world, but don't allow him to force it down the throats of law-abiding Americans.

Carrey's statement starts "In my opinion" which disqualifies everything that follows since there is nothing about Carrey's life, actions or previous comments that makes anyone his opinion has any merit.

CARREY is the bully here! He's the one bullying a DEAD man! Why not go up against someone who can fight back Carrey? COWARD! Instead of singing about guns and the NRA why not sing about all the work Charlton Heston did along with Martin Luther King Jr. regarding civil rights. Carrey needs to EDUCATE himself! IGNORANCE RUNS AMOK!

What Jim Carrey doesn't realize is that if a conservative actor insulted a dead liberal icon, they would probably never work in Hollywood again. I'd call that "bullying".

Carrey's career is dead. He finally gets one more chance on a movie, but no one knows. So he makes a outlandish video to get attention. The conservatives do exactly what he wants and make a fuss. He gets press.

    Still won't go to movie.

Carrey needs to look in the mirror. He will see in him everything he is saying about Fox. Also even Bob Beckle who is a very left leaning liberal is calling Carrey a nut job.

When will entertainers learn that if they choose a side in politics, it is akin to putting a target on their head. Shut up and entertain. If you are going to choose a highly controversial topic and make fun of one side – you deserve the fallout.

Why does anyone care what one of these FAKE people from Hollywood has to say? They have never had to work a day in their lives and they have NO clue what being a REAL American is all about. As the death of the Prison Chief in Colorado proved: a criminal can obtain a gun and and commit murder despite legistation that includes background checks. Attempting to ban guns or limit magzine size will solve nothing. Background checks will solve nothing since criminals can obtain guns from almost anyone.
