Prosecutors: N.Y. Democrat tried to bribe way onto GOP mayoral ballot

(CNN) - New York state Sen. Malcolm Smith and New York City Councilman Dan Halloran were arrested Tuesday morning on charges they schemed to fix the city's 2013 mayoral election through fraud and bribery, according to prosecutors.

The U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan alleges that Smith, a Democrat, bribed Halloran, a Republican, to help guarantee Smith a spot on the Republican ballot in the November election.

Corruption by any elected official is unacceptable and they must be held accountable for their actions. Mr. Smith and the other accused are innocent until proven guilty, but this almost looks like a slam dunk case.

Democrats, you should know by now, you have to be a republican in order to get away with fraud and bribery.

The greatest election fraud, and corruption, is to be found in local governments, and the bigger the locality, the bigger the fraud and corruption, there will be, to find.

Inner city government corruption, is rampant, in all of our major cities........and many, many, smaller cities and towns.

Maybe New York state Sen. Malcolm Smith and former Representative Jesse L. Jackson Jr could share a cell in a Federal correctional facility together.

We need longer and harsher sentences for political corruption. Corruption is like an Addiction of Greed , it affects all genders , race and creed .

Here we have a case of election fraud being committed by Republicans behind closed doors, not voters at the ballot box.

So what you're telling me is that we FINALLY get some collaboration between an R and a D and it turns out they collaborated to defraud the public? Why am I NOT surprised.

Seriously, can someone please explain this one to me? Was the Democrat seeking to have the GOP back HIM up instead of their mayoral candidate? I'm frankly confused.

Yes Rudy, but in all fairness what about the Democrat's part in this?
I would re-phrase your statement to say election fraud being committed by elected officials VERSUS the voters at the ballot box.
Once again polticians projecting their own foibles on us when they are the ones that need closer policing.

It will come out in time. But, this reminds of the black guy in SC who had ran and won the Senate Democratic nomination but couldn't explain how he did it. Actually, I think there are wheels within wheels spinning here. I would suspect that someone had wanted to reduce the number of votes for the Democratic candidate by splitting the minority vote, by having a minority running as a conservative.

Does anyone thinks this is different from: "voter suppression"? I do not think so myself. Both are all about stealing the votes.

Quite interesting. This cat went about this all wrong. All he had to do was stand up and say I hate Obama. Conservatives would have instantly fell in love with him. Look at Artur Davis, Ben Carson, Herman Big Daddy Kane and the rest of the yahoos.
