Cheney to GOP leaders: ‘We’re in deep doo doo’ on North Korea

(CNN) – Republican leaders in Congress received a dire warning on Tuesday from former Vice President Dick Cheney on the ongoing crisis in North Korea.

“We’re in deep doo doo,” Cheney told lawmakers, according to a GOP leadership aide.

Cheney added the current North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, is unpredictable and doesn't share the United States worldview.

One lawmaker present at the session, Rep. Steve Southerland of Florida, said Cheney wore a cowboy hat and "looked really good, spoke really clearly, lucidly.”

“It was nice to see him doing well,” Southerland said, noting the last time Cheney was on Capitol Hill he "didn’t look good – very frail, but in this meeting he looked great."

Cheney, 72, underwent a successful heart transplant in 2012 after a series of heart attacks over many years.

Southerland said Cheney spent about 10 minutes in the GOP leadership meeting Tuesday, and didn't give any specific policy recommendations or critiques of how the Obama administration is handling the situation in North Korea.

Cheney talked about the North Korean leader, Southerland said, and shared some of his history dealing with Saddam Hussein, noting "you never know what they're thinking."

Southerland, summarizing the former vice president’s remarks, said Cheney advised not to “eliminate any possibility.”

“Here's a young guy we don't know very much about – have very little intel on him, so we just need to make sure that we don't assume why he's doing what he's doing because he could be doing what he's doing for any number of reasons,” Southerland recalled Cheney saying.

Cheney also dropped by the weekly House GOP whip meeting at the invitation of Rep. Kevin McCarthy.

Cheney himself is a former House Republican whip.

"Whip McCarthy invited Vice President Cheney to discuss the ongoing situation on the Korean Peninsula with members of our whip team. We appreciate the vice president for sharing his insight and experience on the matter," a McCarthy aide told CNN.

The aide declined to say whether Cheney suggested any specific course of action on the situation in North Korea during this meeting.

Yes we are, Cheney, and you played a big part in putting us here in the "deep doo doo". Thanks a lot, war criminal.

My first thought on reading the headline was "somebody needs to change Cheney's diaper".

I expect the Un man to keep the bluster up until we give him another popsicle.

Other than that, there's really nothing to see except if you love watching how apoplectic CNN on-air personalities can get.

  5. WTF?

The libs conveniently overlook the fact that their president has personally authorized drone strikes that have killed hundreds of innocent children in Afghanistan, that he and his lying Attorney General authorized thousands of illegal assault weapons going to Mexico that have resulted in hundreds of innocent Mexican civilians being killed, and that he and Clinton are obstructing the truth about the Benghazi Massacre. Give me Dick Cheney and George Bush any day over this Socialist bent on stripping away our rights to privacy and personal safety.

I would venture to guess that every person on this thread who posted is in favor of redistributing money from people who have jobs, to people who do not.

We really don't need Cheney's input on anything to do with war. He cost the US alot of lives due to his policies that he forced on President Bush. Fall back in your do do!

Cheney has experience which has value in and of itself. Some of you leftist need to open your minds about what is really going on in this world. You can start at Benghazi.

Dick Cheney proving why he's still more relevant than Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton and even "The One" Barrack Obama himself. America missed a great opportunity to draft this man for President in 2008. We would not have the problems we have today had that happened – Dow would be at 30,000+, unemployment nearing 2% and the American deficit would be nowhere near $16 trillion+. SMH

Cheney is right on the mark, just as he was with Iraq and Afghanistan. North Korea is a threat to the world we live in – just like Taliban and Saddam Hussein. Drastic measures must be taken to prevent these extremist dictators from destroying innocent lives. Imagine – had people like Hitler been removed from power early on in his agenda, how much different would things have been today. I hope Seal Team 6 pays this man a visit – soon.

Every paycheck Cheney has ever gotten while in government has gone to charity,He and Bush still visit, and have personal home get togethers for injured soldiers.Every time he and any other conservatives spoke up against the way we were throwing homes out to those that couldn't afford it,as well as the way we were financing it, they were called racists by the very idiots in the senate that are destroying our country now.You whiners have nothing but name calling and vitriol for the very men that fought the leftists that are ruining your childrens future. If any one of you have paid attention to any thing more then the channel six news you would know this.Just curious,,,What are you gonna tell your kids when they see what you gave done to their way of life??

Does anyone even care what Mr. Cheney thinks, says or does at this point? Enough damage was done when he was part of Bush's administration as is. Credibility = 0.

Firstly, anyone taking advice from Dick Cheney on foreign policy and foreign governments and the threat they supposedly pose, immediately disqualifies him/herself to hold any political office. And how dares Cheney to offer his views on anything, with his dismal track record of getting the US into Iraq, which he claimed to be a safe haven for terrorists, and being armed to the teeth with WMDs, when it was anything but.
Secondly, it comes as a surprise that he had a heart transplant. I didn't think there was a heart to transplant. Probably the worst VP in history. He and his gang are directly responsible for the many unnecessarily destroyed lives of US soldiers in Iraq, not to mention the Iraqis', plus the proliferation of terrorism in the region and globally. Al Quaeda didn't exist in Iraq before the invasion, and it also didn't exist in Lybia, and they weren't welcome in Egypt either. Look at the mess now.
So, let North Korea blow their horn, and rest assured that if a nation intends to go to war, that they don't scream it from the roof tops and warns the world beforehand! No doo doo here, just "good" old fearmongering by an embittered and redundant man, and an infantile new "leader" of a backwards country having his first go at the propaganda machine. Well, it's doo doo after all.

Cheney would love another full scale war. This way Haliburton can cash in on more of our money. It obviously suits his interests to propogate fear mongering, this way it can be followed up by war mongering.

Thank God this man never had his hand on "the button" or the entire world would be in deep doo-doo. He's a war mongering international war crimes crimminal responsible for the death thousands of people in the middle east including the american soldiers who went there to fight and die so his pals at Halliburton could take control of the Iraqi oil fields and line their pockets with gold. History will not remember him well. Go away Mr Cheney and please shut your trap!!!!!

Yes Kim Jong Un is unpredictable, but he is a danger only to himself. Any provocation will bring about his destruction.

Amazing the hate some of you have for Cheney. Well at least when he was in power he did not have the gutter mouth of Biden or the arrogance of this new president of spending. The left needs a course in civility and reason but when one is entrenched in the political religion of progressive socialism nothing is left but their own egos and arrogance.

I think today i will get my little sign, stand on the street corner and protest the rich----deep stuff. Hey when is the new obama phone upgrades coming?
