Cheney to GOP leaders: ‘We’re in deep doo doo’ on North Korea

(CNN) – Republican leaders in Congress received a dire warning on Tuesday from former Vice President Dick Cheney on the ongoing crisis in North Korea.

“We’re in deep doo doo,” Cheney told lawmakers, according to a GOP leadership aide.

Cheney added the current North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, is unpredictable and doesn't share the United States worldview.

One lawmaker present at the session, Rep. Steve Southerland of Florida, said Cheney wore a cowboy hat and "looked really good, spoke really clearly, lucidly.”

“It was nice to see him doing well,” Southerland said, noting the last time Cheney was on Capitol Hill he "didn’t look good – very frail, but in this meeting he looked great."

Cheney, 72, underwent a successful heart transplant in 2012 after a series of heart attacks over many years.

Southerland said Cheney spent about 10 minutes in the GOP leadership meeting Tuesday, and didn't give any specific policy recommendations or critiques of how the Obama administration is handling the situation in North Korea.

Cheney talked about the North Korean leader, Southerland said, and shared some of his history dealing with Saddam Hussein, noting "you never know what they're thinking."

Southerland, summarizing the former vice president’s remarks, said Cheney advised not to “eliminate any possibility.”

“Here's a young guy we don't know very much about – have very little intel on him, so we just need to make sure that we don't assume why he's doing what he's doing because he could be doing what he's doing for any number of reasons,” Southerland recalled Cheney saying.

Cheney also dropped by the weekly House GOP whip meeting at the invitation of Rep. Kevin McCarthy.

Cheney himself is a former House Republican whip.

"Whip McCarthy invited Vice President Cheney to discuss the ongoing situation on the Korean Peninsula with members of our whip team. We appreciate the vice president for sharing his insight and experience on the matter," a McCarthy aide told CNN.

The aide declined to say whether Cheney suggested any specific course of action on the situation in North Korea during this meeting.

Dick Chaney divested himself of Haliburton when he became vice president, so give it a rest. He also gave more to charity in one particular year, both in both real terms and as a percentage, than Clinton, Kerry, Gore, Obama and Biden, all together, gave in their entire time in elected office. There is an enormous amount of lazy group think in this comments section.

Thank you, Mr. Cheney, for giving the North Koreans the boost for which they've been seeking. Now, if you don't mind going back into your hole and remain quiet.

Dear Dick: We were in "deep doo doo" the whole time of the George W. Bush administration, of which you were a BIG part. Who asked for your 2 cents?

  10. Oh really?

I'm not sure why anyone is listening to Cheney. He and W started a war they thought would be over "in a few weeks" on the premise that Hussein was harboring terrorists and had weapons of mass destruction. Research and documents released after their departure show clearly that they knew full well Saddam was not involved in either terrorists or weapons of mass destruction. If you look at Saddam's history, he was actually a CIA operative early in his political career and we helped him come to power so he would be our proxy in fighting Iran. He started showing he had a mind of his own, so we went to war with him, first under Bush senior (former Director of the CIA) and then with Bush junior (former D student who was kept in school by his father's influence when he should rightly have been expelled. Because of Cheney's Halliburton connection, he and his buddies made millions on the Iraq war. Bush junior was "getting even" for things Saddam did and said about his dad in one of his typical childish and terminally stupid ways of doing things. Cheney should be making license plates at some federal penitentiary. At least W has the good sense to keep quiet.

Cheney makes Obama and his band of Chicago thug amateurs look like complete dopes. Well they are complete dopes. Cheney could lead a country in turmoil. Obama just gins up fears and promotes division amongst American. Cheney was great CVP. Liberal loon talk about their Haliburton derangement and it is hilarious.

@ Frank – You claim Bush lied about the reasons for going into Iraq; do you even know the definition of the word "lie"??? In order for him to lie, he would have had to of had information to the contrary. The UN along with most international intelligence agencies said the same thing: Saddam has nukes. I mean, dont you remember the Will Ferrell skits with Molly Shannon on SNL? It implied that Saddam was lying to us about not having nukes. The country and the WORLD believed it which means that Bush didnt lie. Why dont you grow a little bit before going after someone for name calling.

Frank, I think it was actually Colin Powell's assistant, Richard Armitage, who outed CIA "operative" Valerie Plame. But, don't let facts get in the way of your preceived notions...

I don't understand why some of the throngs of starving people have not collectively figured out how to get rid of Kim Jong dUNg and melt down all the statues of his father and grandfather and sell the bronze for food. I for one am sick of this short fat idiot's threats. Either DO it or take your malfunctioning toys back to the junkyard where they belong.

Cheney didn't out any CIA operative. It was determined by the independent prosecutor that is was Richard Armitage. Why you feel the need to propagate false information is beyond understanding.

I like how now when this scvmbag talks they have to use words like "lucid", particularly after he uses words like "doo-doo" in a political discussion. Time to take Darth Cheney back to his lair where they can wipe off the spittle, change his diapers and plug him back in.

The point is not whether Hussein had weapons of mass destruction because 1) we had sufficient intel to know there was absolutely no way they were imminently being deployed against us, nor Israel and 2) there were UN actions going forward to determine the truth of whether they existed or not. We short circuited that effort without any emergency requiring us to do so. If we had followed thrugh on the inspection, UN course it would have become obvious that there were no WMD. It was not like he was threatening to nuke NYC- that he never threatened or contemplated. the only rush was to make big money for Halliburton
