Cheney to GOP leaders: ‘We’re in deep doo doo’ on North Korea

(CNN) – Republican leaders in Congress received a dire warning on Tuesday from former Vice President Dick Cheney on the ongoing crisis in North Korea.

“We’re in deep doo doo,” Cheney told lawmakers, according to a GOP leadership aide.

Cheney added the current North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, is unpredictable and doesn't share the United States worldview.

One lawmaker present at the session, Rep. Steve Southerland of Florida, said Cheney wore a cowboy hat and "looked really good, spoke really clearly, lucidly.”

“It was nice to see him doing well,” Southerland said, noting the last time Cheney was on Capitol Hill he "didn’t look good – very frail, but in this meeting he looked great."

Cheney, 72, underwent a successful heart transplant in 2012 after a series of heart attacks over many years.

Southerland said Cheney spent about 10 minutes in the GOP leadership meeting Tuesday, and didn't give any specific policy recommendations or critiques of how the Obama administration is handling the situation in North Korea.

Cheney talked about the North Korean leader, Southerland said, and shared some of his history dealing with Saddam Hussein, noting "you never know what they're thinking."

Southerland, summarizing the former vice president’s remarks, said Cheney advised not to “eliminate any possibility.”

“Here's a young guy we don't know very much about – have very little intel on him, so we just need to make sure that we don't assume why he's doing what he's doing because he could be doing what he's doing for any number of reasons,” Southerland recalled Cheney saying.

Cheney also dropped by the weekly House GOP whip meeting at the invitation of Rep. Kevin McCarthy.

Cheney himself is a former House Republican whip.

"Whip McCarthy invited Vice President Cheney to discuss the ongoing situation on the Korean Peninsula with members of our whip team. We appreciate the vice president for sharing his insight and experience on the matter," a McCarthy aide told CNN.

The aide declined to say whether Cheney suggested any specific course of action on the situation in North Korea during this meeting.

By the same standards American presidents have held other world leaders to, Dick Cheney is a war criminal. He belongs in prison.

Why does anyone still listen to this war criminal?

Refresh my memory as to what me said that turned out to be right? Was it the "we'll be greeted as liberators?"; "Iraq has weapons of mass destruction"; "waterboarding isn't torture?"; etc.

The best be can hope is that he passes quickly and/or has a McNamara moment.

"The Left: ready to hate." I know plenty of Republicans who lost sons in Iraq and Afghanistan who would cheerfully shoot Cheney in the face and bury him under the woodpile. Ain't it nice to see non-partisan cooperation? And son, ain't it just a bit hateful to post silly lies about other people?

All the lefties up in arms because Cheney spoke. If your memory serves all of you correctly, Clinton had a peace agreement with NK so that they would not continue their development of nuclear arms. I believe that was in 1994. 10 years later, it was discovered that we were giving them loads of money, but yet they never followed the agreement they had with the Clinton administration. Oh, that's RIGHT, the lefties always must pass the blame on to everyone but themselves. Such a pitiful kool aid drinking bunch....................

Always liked Cheney. He's off an gay marriage but otherwise he's okay. I respect the fact that, when he was hunting, he saw an open shot on a lawyer and took it. Nice.....

Cheney you should have said, "we were in deep doo doo when we manufactured a war against Iraq". The American people are still suffering because of the manufactured war.

cheney has been an absolute nuisance since he left office. He didnt help anyone two years ago when the US lost a drone in iran either – and im sure these statements do nothing but fan the flames. This is one time where he really should take george bush's lead and end his public statements and criticism. You did your damage and made your money cheney – time to ride of on your dinosaur into the sunset with the rest of the reagan era neocons...

Seriously...Someone is listening to this guy on foreign policy still. He should have been brought up on multiple charges for what he did to this country and to our soldiers when he lied his way into the war in Iraq. At least George Bush has the class to keep a low profile. This horrible person still tries to justify what he did because Saddam Hussein was a bad guy. There are a lot of evil people in the world but it wouldn't justify lying to the world, destroying our economy and killing our soldiers to kill them.

I don't understand how Cheney can be an authority on anything. He is a crook and profits off this country being in war.

And this is the same guy that got us into the Afgan and Iraq wars. Notice that Bush is silent on the subject. Cheney was the real president and Bush was only the figure-head.. Time for Cheney "the war monger" to go away and the press to ignore his brain dead (from all the heart attacks he's had) ramblings..
