U.N. chief's message to North Korean leader

(CNN) – Delivering a direct message to North Korea's young leader Thursday, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged Kim Jong Un to focus less on making threats against the United States, and more on improving conditions for his own people.

"I would strongly ask him to, first of all, refrain from taking any such provocative measures, which is clearly in violation against the Security Council resolution and against the expectation of the international community," Ban said during an exclusive appearance on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."

"I would strongly urge him to do more to enhance the living standard of his own people, when they are suffering from this economic difficulty," continued Ban, who met with President Barack Obama at the White House Thursday.

Ban also delivered a message in his native Korean to Kim Jong Un, telling Blitzer he was speaking both as the UN secretary-general and a South Korean citizen.

"Do more…for eventual peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula," Ban said.

Having Ban Ki Moon deliver the message will render it totally ineffective.. Since Ban Ki is from South Korea, Kim Jong Un will just decry him as a "puppet of the west" or some other suitably stupid remark.

Little men like kin jong only understand force of equal or greater value. They care more about themselves then the people they could be helping and have no respect for themselves or the international community. I believe we need to show our respect to China and let them know we are going to introduce the little man to a dose of greater force.

We cannot go on playing games like this if we expect to last more than another century as a species. Living on the brink of catastophy caused by a mistake or bad judgement is completely unacceptable. The world needs to have a clear strategy/policy on how to deal with rogue nations that use or plan to use nukes in a threatening manner to blackmail the world. Probability and time will determine the outcome and it won't be good. At some point we are all going to have to stand up, identify the countries that need to be dealt with and deal with them perminantly. If that means military action and 1 million + dead, it's a small price to pay for long term peace and avoiding extinction. We can't end up in a world 20 years from now where a half a dozen countries are continually threatening and terror groups are constantly trying to sneak WMD's into the country. You can't contain that! So deal with it now!

  8. Thank God for the UN!

Simplified, the UN "Secretary General" said "Stop, or we'll say 'stop' again." They're dedicated to stopping the proliferation of nuclear weapons like tobacco company executives are dedicated to preventing under-aged consumption of their products. I'll believe it when I see it.

Someone needs to grow some balls and actually do what they threaten, NK is such a wuss and all talk. They couldn't launch a missle at the US if they worked on it for 10 years. It's time to slap those guys back to the stone age.
