Justices uphold state gun control law

(CNN) - The Supreme Court let stand New York's strict gun control law, rejecting an appeal Monday from a group of gun owners. At issue was whether the Constitution's Second Amendment provided a broad individual right to carry a handgun outside the home for self-defense.

New York's Penal Law 265.03(03) bans possession of a firearm in public - either openly or concealed - unless someone can show "proper cause" - beyond a desire for self-defense - to secure a carry permit.

Anonymous, still missing the point. Republicans are all for voting registration but not gun registration. And much of what happened with voting law changes was rejected....again by the courts. This court a conservative one at that.

Oh, and I have yet to see any of these urban drug running gangs shoot up suburban elementary schools.

NY simply wants the criminals to be able to assault the public at will, without anyone being able to defend themselves.

People should start leaving NY city, and indeed, NY state, in droves. Being at the mercy of criminals is no way to live.

"Disarm all of the urban minority gangs running drugs and most of this goes away."
Well, only inasmuch as you believe all gun violence occurs only between gang members. Reality, however, tells a different story.
