Sanford accused of trespassing on ex-wife's property

(CNN) - Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, who's now running as the Republican nominee in a special congressional election, has been ordered to appear in court two days after the May election over allegations that he trespassed at his ex-wife's home.

Jenny Sanford confirmed a report about court documents she filed claiming she saw her ex-husband leaving her Sullivan's Island home on Feb. 3, roughly three weeks after he announced his bid for Congress.

The Associated Press first reported the court documents.

"I understood [the documents] were to have remained part of the sealed divorce docs. This is a private matter and I have no further comment," she told CNN.

In the documents reported by the AP, Jenny caught Mark leaving her property out of a rear door, using his cell phone as a flash light.

A spokesman with Sanford's campaign declined to comment.

The couple were divorced in 2010 after the then-governor admitted he was carrying on an extramarital affair with a woman from Argentina. He finished out his term in 2011 and has since become engaged to the same woman.

Seeking political redemption, Sanford won the Republican primary this month in a race to fill the 1st District seat left vacant when Gov. Nikki Haley appointed Tim Scott to the Senate late last year.

It's the same district Sanford represented in Congress before becoming governor.

I guess he went the wrong way on the Appalachian Trail – one end goes to Argentina and the other to his wife in South Carolina.

Part of me wants to believe that maybe he just left something at the house. Then another part of me thinks it's 2013 and they were divorced in 2010, maybe this guy just doesn't use his brain at all. Apparently he should've used his cell phone as a... well cell phone in stead of a flashlight. I wonder if he posted on Twitter that he was going for a hike on the Appalachian Trail?

People of South Carolina! There's something weird about Mark Sanford. Sure you want to elect him to any position of power? Just asking.

Republicans are a trip. Sanford is a liar, a thief, an unfaithful philandering husband, guilty of ethics violations while in office, but you'll trust him in the Senate??? Yes, Republicans really have become the party of Dumb.

Why do we need a person with less than stellar credentials back into a system already overloaded with less than stellar individuals? The answer is we do not, but people like Sanford would risk any embarrassment to get back into a very sweet job, regaining the power of the position and living off of the fat of the land. As voters, we are truly stupid
