Sanford accused of trespassing on ex-wife's property

(CNN) - Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, who's now running as the Republican nominee in a special congressional election, has been ordered to appear in court two days after the May election over allegations that he trespassed at his ex-wife's home.

Jenny Sanford confirmed a report about court documents she filed claiming she saw her ex-husband leaving her Sullivan's Island home on Feb. 3, roughly three weeks after he announced his bid for Congress.

The Associated Press first reported the court documents.

"I understood [the documents] were to have remained part of the sealed divorce docs. This is a private matter and I have no further comment," she told CNN.

In the documents reported by the AP, Jenny caught Mark leaving her property out of a rear door, using his cell phone as a flash light.

A spokesman with Sanford's campaign declined to comment.

The couple were divorced in 2010 after the then-governor admitted he was carrying on an extramarital affair with a woman from Argentina. He finished out his term in 2011 and has since become engaged to the same woman.

Seeking political redemption, Sanford won the Republican primary this month in a race to fill the 1st District seat left vacant when Gov. Nikki Haley appointed Tim Scott to the Senate late last year.

It's the same district Sanford represented in Congress before becoming governor.

This is news because he thinks the rules don't apply to him - and he is running for public office. Surely, no one would vote for him.

The problem is not just the reduced thinking power of one lost hiker, the really scary part is that such a large chunk of the SC electorate keeps voting this family values R in office,

Did he get what he went after? I would throw the book at him. He has some nerve. He needs to leave his ex-wife alone and get out of her life. He can't have it his way.

Sounds kind of fishy to me. If they divorce in 2010, why are the records still sealed? Why does he still have a key to the house? The wife didn't change locks or something? Fishy Fishy Fishy.

More proof of his hypocritical arrogance. Of course the good ole boys made sure the court date would be after the election.

Although I agree with the many posts regarding Sanders' trustworthiness, I wonder the authors of the postings had the same sentiment when Bill Clinton had his affair or Representative Weiner had his moment? Most said that it was no one's business. Let's make sure we are being intellectually honest.

Too many South Carolinians will vote for this man for no other reason than he has an "R" behind his name. For those who could "forgive" his marital indiscretion and hypocrisy, there was still the matter of 5 days' derelection of duty when no one knew where he was. Now, this. I believe this man believes the rules don't apply to him, and since he won the Republican primary in this crazy, stupid state, he thinks he's untouchable. What kind of man would sneak into his former wife's house – the wife this so-called "family values" politican was screwing around on – and use his cell phone as a flashlight to keep from being discovered? What could he possibly have been up to? This is scary behavior, and tied in with the other issues, should make him unfit for office. He should be laughed right out of public life. But that won't happen, because this is South Carolina, and they don't care about integrity and honesty as long as you're not a Democrat. He will beat Colbert-Busch, and his ego, arrogance, and sense of entitlement will only grow. Once more, my state embarrasses and angers me.

So, this is the leadership that the Republicans in South Carolina covet? Just goes to show the low standards these people have.
