Biden presided over Senate gun vote
(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden, in his role as president of the Senate, presided over Wednesday's big vote on a a controversial amendment to the package pushed by President Barack Obama in the aftermath of the Newtown school massacre.
"I hope to God that there are 60 people up there that have the courage to stand up," Biden said during a Google+ Hangout Wednesday afternoon, before the vote.
However, the amendment, a bipartisan compromise that expands the background check system, was defeated in a 54-46 vote.
"This is going to be a close vote," he said earlier. "But I assure you one thing: If we don't get it today, we're going to get it eventually."

You can keep buying your assult weapons and most of the time not register them (for now). But this fight is far from over. We will remember every last person who voted against this bill, and try to make certain they do not get this chance again. Any one have any doubt who holds the strings on the GOTP puppets?

Obama is wrong and the country is uninformed. The 2nd amendment expressly says "the right to bear arms shall not be infringed". Regulation, especially of the law abiding is infringement. Enforcement of existing laws is inept. Do that first. Allowing abortion is far worse than guns. 50,000,000 dead from abortion. Where is the outcry?
I hope that the Senators eventually get this passed. I would hope that the rules that make it so hard to get a conviction on weapons charges get made easier to prosecute those not having valid weapons permits or unauthorized weapons.
I'm sure Boehner and McConnell are handing out NRA bonus checks at the nearest secret meeting place as we speak.

This was useless, make me feel good, legislation. Nothing more. Thankfully those in the Senate were smart enough to realize the folly of expanding background checks based on a flawed NICS system. Lets fix that broken system and you'll see this was indeed useless legislation.
If you have a tire with a hole in it it doesn't matter how much air you blow into it, its still flat.
Same thing applies to checks based on a broken reporting system.

You're cheering the fact that our Senate blocked a bill that would have made gun ownership a right of the people who can pass a simple back-ground check. You must be one of those who would worry about passing such a test. The next time a person who would have been rejected by the check gets a weapon and guns downs some little kids, you can cheer again... Your side won!

Your boy Mitch McConnell is the only Senator in history to have filibustered his own proposal. Republicans in the Senate have used the filibuster (about 150 times – 4 times the historical record) to block debate and vote on nearly every initiative that would have created jobs or improved our economy. Republicans in the House sent 16 bills to the Senate – each loaded with toxic riders on "personhood" or other political theater. The drunken "Weeper of the House" can't get support from anybody in his party. You should avoid talking about "clowns".
Does not make a difference who was in charge the GOP would still make sure Obama get's nothing. I am sick and tired of the GOP they have made a mess out our government.
I wish to God Obama and Biden would have had the courage save our 4 Americans overseas, then lie to the American people. You think Obama and Biden and there gun crap is going to save our kids. Look what they have done to our country already. Talk about cowards.
