Democrats on guest list for Romney event

(CNN) - Some high-profile Democrats are heading to Park City, Utah this summer to attend a policy retreat held by former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

According to the guest list, obtained by CNN from a source close to Romney, former senior adviser to President Obama's re-election campaign, David Axelrod, and outgoing Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa are among those expected to attend.

"As our June gathering approaches, I wanted to give you an update on some of the people who will be addressing us," Romney wrote in the email. "I have drawn speakers from government and business to identify key opportunities ahead. And I have made sure to invite presenters from both sides of the aisle."

As CNN previously reported, Romney's former running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, and Republican Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey are also scheduled to appear at the event.

Others include Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson, co-chairmen of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, American Enterprise Institute President Arthur Brooks, Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman, Founder of Sun Microsystems Scott McNealy, and Harvard Business School Clayton M. Christensen.

In a previous email to invitees last month, Romney said Solamere Group, the private equity firm founded by his son Tagg and where Romney now serves as a chairman, will help sponsor the gathering.

Romney hosted a major retreat for approximately 700 donors last summer in Park City, featuring speeches by many of his top campaign staff and prospective vice presidential picks.

At a major gathering last month for conservatives-where Romney made his first public speech following his election loss in November-the former Massachusetts governor expressed intent on staying engaged in public policy.

"I am sorry that I will not be your president," he said. "But I will be your co-worker, and I will work shoulder-to-shoulder alongside you."

- CNN's Ashley Killough and Kevin Bohn contributed to this report.

This is a good thing. Our leaders in Washington talk at each other but it appears that none of them listen. There is a rigid "my way or the highway" attitude that is childish and destructive at a time when compromise and cooperation are desperately needed. Perhaps Romney, who is not a demagogue, can be the magnet that draws the sides together. It is certainly worth the effort.

  10. Mitt Romney, He`ll Say Aynthing To Get Elected

Mitt, we`re STILL waiting for TEN YEARS worth of complete tax returns and bank records for those secretive OFFSHORE bank accounts. We don`t trust you, nor Tagg for that matter.

BTW – Tagg ?? Tripp? Trigg ? What is with these Republican politicians and the names they pick for their offspring?

Why isn't Romney on the planet kolob awaiting the rapists Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. Can' t they go to Nauvoo, Illinois or Independence, Missouri to await the polygamist Jesus Christ. Will Willard hand out 200 pound gold tablets given to him by the archangel moroni. So glad this non-christian Willard will not be pushing his cuts and anti-Gay hate. So tired of the Christian Right Party. Hope they go the way of the Whigs.

You still don't wake up people.....Mr. Romney has class, and he would have been a great president. Too bad you all drank the kool-aid and still believe the lies of the man that's in the White House, and all his friends. Unfortunately it will be too late when you start seeing how this man is destroying our country.

Imagine what would happen to the guest list if Congress ever closed the loophole for write-offs for political purposes! – answer – no one will show up for this meeting and whomever shows up will have to find another way of cheating the american tax payer...they have over time, which caused the creation of Sars Banes Oxley and if Congress ever agrees to put 'teeth' in their oversight bills..can't even remember the congressmen who its named after...one had white air from CT..anyway, you get the point

Ask Newt and Santorum what they thought of him last year in the primaries, and how classy he was then. Ask John McCain why he picked the Wasilla Idiot over Romney in 2008. Obama has made the hard calls to get things moving again: Romney would have taken the easy route and completed the job Reagan started in 1981.

He won't run again. He already loss twice. Plus the strain of running is to much, especially without results. Plus if Americans didn't want him the first 2 times the won't want him a 3rd time.

The problem with bipartisanship is that when the other side is blatantly wrong it makes no sense. Why compromise with the stupidity and injustice? The other problem, with American bipartisanship in particular, is that both sides are largely stupid and unjust. It would be interesting to attend something like this, but it would problem be very angering listening to a bunch of rich politicians plot about how they will grow the government and infringe on the freedom of the populace.

The Progressives must be vigilant. Mitt and the far right won't just go away. They must work to preserve what they have gained and strive to better the lives of the American people.

Maybe he will share his plan to create 12 million jobs and close tax loop holes. I will give him credit for trying to get the two parties to talk to each other.

Well, he ain't my co-worker, because he's never done a day's Real Work in his life. Get dirty, deal with the public in retail, get sweaty, work in the hot sun or the driving rain...and then we'll talk. Learn about making a salary that doesn't cover the basics and we'll have something in common. Try to figure out how to pay for going to the doctor, or better yet, chose not to go even though your sick...because you can't afford it...and then we'll have a discussion about the state of health care. In short, Mitt, you'll never be my co-worker, because we have absolutely nothing in common. Sadly for you, I have millions of "co-workers" that do have these things in common. You've got ladies looking for the VIP entrance.
