Sanford wins South Carolina House vote

(CNN) - Former Gov. Mark Sanford will win the race for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District, CNN projects. With 70% of the vote in, Republican Sanford leads Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch, 54%-45%.

Once considered a possible presidential candidate, Sanford left office at the end of his term having admitted to an extramarital affair and under a cloud of ethics violations. He represented the district for three terms before being elected governor.

Before the race, businesswoman Colbert Busch was best known as the sister of Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report."

Politicans are not to be blames –
It is us – voters responsible for selecting such a self centered persons.

What a shame for South Carolina, from a former Gamecock the people of the 1st district couldn't have made a worse choice

I guess all those family values go out the window if they would mean voting for a Democrat.

How revolting that these tea-for-brains Republicans would elect such a worthless piece of garbage to represent us? As long as any fool has an (R) by their name, the fools will pull the lever for them. TP folk, PLEASE, don't ever whine to me again about morals or "responsibility!" Sanford cost this state a small fortune, searching for him in the mountains while he was in the arms of his Argentine lover – but wait – that wasn't bad enough. He used the state treasury for his personal slush fund and continues to violate restraining orders to stay off of his ex-wife's property! And this is what the people of SC consider "leadership?" I'd puke but the SC Republicans would probably vote for that too.

Mother of babbling God! South Carolina, or at least this district,, really is as brain-dead stupid as we thought! I imagine his first act in Congress will be to rail against Obama for some moral failing or other.

Having lived briefly in South Carolina, I can say that these results disappoint but don't surprise me.
The state isn't known for its educational system.

I wish the Republican voters had not nominated Gov Sanford. I hope from here on out he shows better judgement than in the past few years. Even though I do not think Republicans in SC should have nominated Gov Sanford, I'm glad he won. A vote for Colbert Busch would have been a vote for Obama and Nancy Pelosi. A vote for any democrat in now or in 2014 is a vote for those two and a vote to gut the 2nd amendment and ban all gun ownership in the U.S. The people of SC did the right thing. Sen Sanford has won an opportunity he didn't deserve. Let's hope he makes the best of it.

I;ve heard that the voters in the southern states were not very smart and I couldn't see the logic of this any more than in any other part of the country.....however.....if the voters put Sanford back into office...I will have to agree that there may be something to the story... This man , while in office, not only lied about where he was but was doing on your time and your states money....This doesn;t bother you??? You are content to have HIM represent your state in coming business and political affairs??? YOU DO have a problem.... A REALLY BIG problem!!!!

Sanford gives hope to liars, cheaters and sleezes not just across America, but around the world, that they, too, can succeed in pulling yet another one over on the public.

It does help if you're from South Carolina, though. Apparently, the people who live there are as dumb as rocks.

It seems that a tad of illegality or Immorality actually helps get you elected and then to get re-elected.Either the relifious republican party has to stop beating canonistic laws into real federal or state laws and when you commit a crime as he did taking money ( potentially McDonnell as well still liked) for me thats the same as criminals being barred from having a gun. He broke criminal laws and the laws of his church and other religions canonistic type laws.
basically I am appalled and ashamed of the people who voted him in.

Having an affair does not lower somebodys ability to do well at work! I don't understand the obsession with this. President Clinton, JFK ... etc ... did outstanding jobs!
