Photo: Perry gives Obama a Lone Star welcome
(CNN) - Deplaning in Austin, Texas, Thursday, President Barack Obama was greeted by Gov. Rick Perry, a Republican who made a bid for last year's GOP presidential nomination.
The focus of Thursday's visit is job growth - something Perry has touted as a chief accomplishment of his time in office. Speaking after greeting Obama, the governor said the president was smart to visit Austin.
"We are doing things right in Texas and I think the president is wise to come here and take a look at it," he said, noting Obama had recently visited the Lone Star state to attend a memorial service for the first responders killed in the West, Texas fertilizer plant explosion.
A vocal critic of Obama's, Perry most recently railed against the president's gun control proposals during last week's National Rifle Association annual meeting in Houston.
"I realize to those who don't understand the issue, gun laws may look like an easy fix, and might even make some of them feel like these laws do something to solve a problem. Except they don't fix anything. They may win a news cycle, or help our president score political points, but they do nothing but make it harder for law-abiding Americans to own guns," Perry said.

Texans do love to congratulate themselves on job creation and their economy. There's nothing special about it, Texas just HAPPENS to have the oil industry as one of it's main industries, and they're going like gang busters. That's also what helps them on the tax situation, all that corporate tax income.

Is Obama going there to announce the approval of the Keystone pipeline??? If he really wanted new jobs, that is a no brainer. But of course we all know he won't do it for political reasons. So enough of this Obama cares about jobs BS please.
Texas created 1/3 of the jobs? The hourly wage it below every other state so of course the employers are gonna higher cheap labor. Gotta love the conservative thinking on here turning a negative into a positive for good ole Perry.

The only major job growth Perry can take credit for, is the growth in minimum wage jobs!

Yawn. Keep on keepin' on with your irrelevant distractions. Nobody relied on statements made by Clinton 5 years prior to the Iraq war when voting for the authorization of force. Nobody. They relied on direct representations of the current status of Iraq's programs and supposed intelligence reports proving that they had WMDs...all of which came from the Bush administration.
Oh, and enjoy the demographic shifts that are taking away GOP power...I know I will.

That and the fact that Perry created approximately 150,000 government jobs to balance out approximately 170,000 private jobs lost during the recession just so he could claim that the TX economy is so magical that it somehow wasn't effected by the recession.

Perry used 17 Billion in stim money to balance his budget retroactively, as well as to grow pubic sector jobs at at rate twice that of private job growth. When the funds dried up, the teachers and oterh puclic sector workers he lured from out of state were laid off. The only thing Perry is good at is creating a Wal-mart economy, where the residents of his own state can't compete with labor from outside for high-skilled labor.
