(CNN) - Leave it to a sports injury to bring unity to the nation's capital.
After Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper crashed into a wall trying to catch a ball Monday night, the Democratic and Republican leaders in the Senate joined up to send their good wishes.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who hails from Nevada, said on the Senate floor Tuesday that he and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell frequently talk about Harper, who comes from Las Vegas.
"He is really a phenomenon in baseball," Reid said of the 20-year-old, who's now in his second season with the Nationals.
While it may have come out of left field that the two senators started the day in agreement, it was the right field wall that Harper slammed into Monday night when trying to catch a ball at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
He fell to the ground, where he lay motionless. He later received 11 stitches on his chin.
"I told the Republican leader I was going to talk to his family," Reid said. "I will talk to his mom or dad and find out how he is doing."
Following up on Reid's remarks, McConnell described Harper as "the most incredible competitor I have ever seen."
The Republican senator from Kentucky said he missed the West Coast game, which went on late into the night on the East Coast, but he wanted Reid to pass along a message to the athlete's family.
"When you speak to his mother remind her this is one thing that leaders on both sides fully agree on: We are hoping Harper has a speedy recovery and back in the lineup," he said.
On Twitter, Harper vowed Tuesday to continue playing.
