(CNN) - President Barack Obama will deliver a statement from the East Room at the White House on the situation involving the Internal Revenue Service at 6 p.m. ET, the White House announced Wednesday.
The president will discuss "IRS changes" when he makes his statement, a Democratic source told CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash.
Obama released a written statement Tuesday night, saying the findings of a report from the agency's inspector general are "intolerable and inexcusable."
The report found that the IRS used "inappropriate criteria" to identify potential political applications and then forwarded those applications to a team of specialists for review. The criteria resulted in substantial delays in processing of applications and the request of unnecessary information about the groups, according to the report.
