Boehner: Obama administration displaying 'remarkable arrogance'

Washington (CNN) – The way President Barack Obama's administration is handling itself amid parallel points of outrage displays a "remarkable arrogance" that could decay public trust of government, House Speaker John Boehner asserted Thursday.

And he predicted that when all the facts emerge on the targeting of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service, employees at higher levels than those in the field office where the targeting occurred will be implicated.

"Our system requires the bonds of trust between the American people and the government," Boehner said. "Those bonds, once broken, can be very hard to repair. Nothing dissolves the bonds between the people and the government like the arrogance of power here in Washington. That's what the American people are seeing today from the Obama administration. Remarkable arrogance."

On Wednesday, Obama demanded the resignation of the acting IRS commissioner Steven Miller, and vowed to take further action once more in known about who knew the targeting of conservative groups was taking place.

Boehner continued to demand more information from the Obama administration Thursday, and said criminal penalties could be in the pipeline for those who conducted the extra scrutiny on tax exempt applications.

Earlier this week he asked "who's going to jail over this scandal?" and on Thursday he cited the law prohibiting "extortion or willful repression" by revenue officers.

"I want to see the facts," Boehner said. "I want to know how this happened, who was responsible…we need to know where the facts are. Somebody made a decision to do this, and I doubt it was low level employees in this Cincinnati field office."

On Wednesday, a congressional source told CNN that the IRS has identified two "rogue" employees in the agency's Cincinnati office as being principally responsible for the "overly aggressive" handling of requests by conservative groups for tax-exempt status.

Boehner is the stupid one, taking the 37th vote to outlaw the New Health care bill. Boehner has cost the taxpayers tens of millions taking those votes. Boehner is the worst of the worst as our lawmakers in DC goes. He is trash and a traitor to the people.

I do hope you've saved and economized. For when Obama-Care kicks in full swing, unless you are quite well-to-do, you re gonna get kicked hard right in the wallet, the paycheck and the bank account(s) to fund your healthcare.

I voted for Obama twice, and I think the Tea Party is full of it. However, if Obama gave the order to target the Tea Party groups, I believe that is an impeachable offense, as it was when Nixon used the IRS against his "enemies list." But, I doubt Obama had anything to do with this. It began under an IRS commissioner who was a Bush appointee. If he had gotten orders from Obama to this effect, I doubt he would have simply clicked his heels and complied. I also doubt Shulman (the Bush appointee) gave the order to target Tea Party groups. I think it was some hyperpartisan underling who acted on his/her own. Which is why certain functions of the government (e.g., the taxing authority, law enforcement) should NEVER be tainted with political partisanship, from either party. Unfortunately, Boehner doesn't want to fix the problem. He wants to use it to gain a political advantage over Obama and Clinton, and then use the IRS against liberal groups........

Once again The Speaker runs to the media to paint the President as "arrogant". The facts are barely out on this so called scandal and he is already smearing the President. But this is par for the course for a man who has no integrity and genuine concern for the country. Instead of passing much needed legislation for the country he points the finger in another attempt to derail the President and allow the country to lurch into bigger problems that he simply ignors in typically rabid Right wing Republican partisanship. When the full facts come out this will end up as the same "scandal" of the socalled White House Benghazi coverup, which the just released WH emails have definitively now disproven. So many hate filled comments posted here about the President of this country prove how racist and reactionary many in the country remain.

'Gross Mismanagement': Report Says DOJ Lost Track of Possible Terrorists
Watchdog's report says the Justice Department temporarily lost track of two known or suspected terrorists who were in the witness protection program, while allowing others on a no-fly list to board commercial flights. YET another in a long list of White House and DOJ scandals.

On the IRS thing, firing the guy only in the post since November and already scheduled to leave next month is indeed arrogance if not gross incompetence.

Teapublicans can't govern. They can only hate on Obama. Time to vote them out in 2014.

Is this one of those 'takes one to know one" instances? Let's see if I can remember who has been arrogant in our congress............yep, it was the republicans. Keep doing a better job, Mr. President. You gain more respect every day, and they keep trying to keep you down, every day. Grandstanding is all they have left.

The outrage at the IRS scandal is hilarious. Has anyone here read the report?

There were liberal groups also targeted by the "Unit" under investigation, but nobody cares. Why is that? What's so special about Tea Party groups but not liberal ones? Is it because Democrats realize that being on a list for scrutiny isn't special at all?

Nobody is ever held to account for anything. I don't remember anyone from the financial crisis or lehman brothers going to jail. They need to investigate and prosecute people who break the law. Republican or Democrat. We the people deserve better from both sides.

What trust, I have no trust anymore. Obama just took the fellow's resignation from one department, and then reassigned him to oversee the department in charge of handling the IRS taxing healthcare now. I feel like I'm being targeted, and discriminated against right now. Where's accountability, where's the ethics?

Would Obama and his goofball administration please resign. Obama and all his lies are about as crooked as you could get. Please get the harlem hood out of office, and let's elect a President that brings grace and class back to the White House, so the American people can be proud of are leadership once again.

    House Speaker,
Wish Ohio will not vote for you again. Instead of concentrating on the real business at hand, you concentrate on ruining President Obama's reputation. You are so rediculous. All you Republicans go home and don't come back. The American people don't need you.

Yes, John, we all had such faith in our government that it would be honest, fruitful, and representative of the people. But now some dirtbags from the IRS have undone all your hard work. Don't flatter yourself. Now go to dinner with some fundraisers.

These messes are not entirely Obama's fault. Valery and the crew of misfits she has selected, along with the cabinet and appointments that have been made by this administration, have selected quite a bunch of self-serving individuals that are in pretty much over their heads.

Most amazing – the low information folks are out in abundance. While the libs may enjoin this abuse by the IRS, they would certainly not like it if it were turned against them. So, at the end of the day – no's a function of which team are we on. Sad.

Really? What was the first thing that the GOP did in charge of the House? It wasn't a jobs bill. I think it was either anti-Obama care or anti abortion bill. Since when do those things help the economy?

so when are the big mouthed Texans who comment on these stories going to leave the union so the federal welfare state will stop taking money from the rich northern states! that's right Texans you benefit from revenue sharing to support your state , it means unlike the rich northern states who's tax payers pay in more in federal taxes than their states get back unlike you state of Texas which gets back more federal dollars than your people pay in taxes. in short why don't you people in that state find another grape to suck on!!!!!!! most of you in that state are"all hat and no cattle".
