(CNN) - An outspoken and provocative conservative who emerged from Saturday's Republican Party of Virginia Convention as the party's nominee for lieutenant governor once compared Planned Parenthood to the Ku Klux Klan and blasted African-Americans for their "slavish devotion" to the Democratic Party.
E.W. Jackson, an African-American pastor and attorney from Chesapeake, made the comments in a self-produced "message to black Christians" posted on YouTube last year.
"The Democrat Party has created an unholy alliance between certain so-called civil rights leaders and Planned Parenthood, which has killed unborn black babies by the tens of millions. Planned Parenthood has been far more lethal to black lives than the KKK ever was," he said in the video. "And the Democrat Party and the black civil rights allies are partners in this genocide."
Sensing an opportunity to tie Jackson to the rest of the Republican ticket in Virginia, especially conservative gubernatorial nominee Ken Cuccinelli, Democrats have already started highlighting those remarks and others in emails to reporters.
Cuccinelli, the state Attorney General, will face Democrat Terry McAuliffe, the former Democratic National Committee chairman, in the November election.
"Extremely divisive rhetoric from Jackson and Cuccinelli reflects the social agenda they would impose on Virginia. At a time when Virginians are looking for leaders who focus on jobs, the Tea Party has nominated a ticket whose careers have been defined by a radical social agenda," McAuliffe campaign spokesman Brennan Bilberry said in a statement.
Cuccinelli and Jackson were nominated at Saturday's GOP convention in Richmond, where Jackson beat out six other candidates for the number two spot on the ticket. Party activists tapped Mark Obenshain to be their nominee for attorney general.
Jackson, the founder of a nondenominational church, is a former Marine and graduate of Harvard Law School. But he is rapidly becoming known for a raft of controversial statements that have bubbled up online in the wake of his surprise victory on Saturday. He has publicly questioned President Barack Obama's faith and has been spearheading efforts to recruit black Democrats to the GOP since last year, when he unsuccessfully ran for Senate in Virginia.
"Shame on us for allowing ourselves to be sold to the highest bidder. We belong to God," he said in the video. "Our ancestors were sold against their will centuries ago, but we're going through the slave market voluntarily today."
As lieutenant governor, Jackson would hold the tie-breaking vote in what is currently an evenly divided state Senate. Republicans currently hold the lieutenant governorship and control of the 40-seat body. But with the unpolished Jackson as the GOP nominee, Democrats are now a safe bet to pick up the lieutenant governor's office and control of the senate.
Democrats will decide their nominee in a June 11 primary. To the frustration of establishment Republicans, GOP activists in the state chose to nominate their candidates at a convention instead of in a primary, a move that gave a relatively small group of conservative activists control over the nomination process.
A purple state, Virginia currently has a Republican governor, Bob McDonnell, but voted for Obama in the last two presidential elections.
Poll numbers so far show neither party with a sizable lead in the race, less than six months before Election Day. Because Virginia voters elect the governor and lieutenant governor separately, it's possible that the winners could be from different parties.

Well...It's the democrats telling them to kill their children...making it sooooo easy. Telling them that it's empowerment and freedom. All those rich "NYC liberal elitist" type women telling you that you should abort; while they on the other hand nurture their own kids with all the best food, schools and lifestyle. Just take a good look at who is pushing your buttons.
@mforrest, So true, the NRA has pulled the trigger on more black men then Planned Parenthood have, first of all, the NRA hasn't pulled a trigger on anyone, and if thugs in the street want to knock off each other like the national pastime, then I have no problem with it, my problem with it begins when those thugs start spraying bullets and hitting kids in their strollers or a kid inside playing the piano in his home, both of which have happened in Oakland, CA more times then I care to remember. If women, black, hispanic, asian, white, whatever race get pregnant and decide that they can't care for the child and decided to abort the pregnancy, I say they are being responsible and making a personal decision that is solely between them and their doctor. So comparing the fact that thugs make the choice to pull a trigger regardless of the consequences to women who choose to have a medical procedure that you aren't morally comfortable with is absurd. Simple solution, you don't believe in abortion, don't have one. If you don't want to own a firearm, then don't own one. That's your right. It is not your right to tell someone else what they can have or what they should do based on your beliefs.
At what exact point did the GOP lose all interest in jobs, economic growth and efficient government to focus exclusively on discrimination, violent hatred of individual rights and ultra extreme causes? Why do they hate America so much?

First, he did not say Planned Parenthood is like the KKK he said it killed more blacks than the KKK, a factually correct statement if you believe a viable fetus is another name for an unborn child. There is also a reason most planned parenthoods are in minority neighborhoods, its founder Margaret Sanger was a firm believer in controling the populations of who she deem undesirable especially blacks. A friend of the KKK and advocate of limited genecide Sanger's vision lives on in the organization she founded.
This is artical is aimed at headline readers of low intelligence. Misleading and biased it is meant to degrade those that speak out against abortion, especially late term ones. If you logically feel there is no difference between a fetus who could live outside the whom than you must come to one of two conclusions: Either many of the abortions done in clinics are essentirally murder or the killing babies is ethical. Gosnell came to the second conclusion. An undercover investigation of Planned Parenthood showed many of their clinics agree with him.

Really? What undercover investigation showed that PP emplyees agree with Kermit Gosnell? What ehavily edited tape shows this? Another fan of the Project Veritas school of truth.
Mr. Jackson is merely exposing the lies and deception that Planned Parrenthood and the Obama/Clinton administration would like you to believe, that it helps women's health care. Planned Parrenthood does not help women, it kills women, and most are black females that wind up in trash dumpsters across the USA. While evil as the KKK was, there is no comparison to the amount of deaths and pain that PP has caused blacks in America. KKK operated mostly in the deep south while PP is in all 50 states DC and beyond killing and supressing the population of black race. Both organizations hate blacks but PP has the most power over blacks because it has the backing of our black president, athiest, much of white America. Their goal is to ellininate as many blacks as possible and reduce black influence in America. The founder of PP Margaret Sanger is a white racist that hates blacks (do a little research).
PP is getting rich off of the elimination of black children of which one might have been he next researcher that finds a cure for cancer, great teacher, or political figure that would of been a great leader (unlike Obama). Maybe even the next MLK. Will never know because their hopes and dreams ended in a trash compactor or landfill.
Black America you are being misled and deceived by the liberal media, liberal political figures, and those that want blacks silenced and the destruction of families and marriage as we know it. Embrace Jesus Christ, and those that follow him because you know he is all about truth. You all know in your hearts that Christ would never support the destruction of life or families. Do not be deceived by lies!
Don't you just hate when black folks don't embrace the liberal/Democratic mindset?
Well, let's get prepared and start digging for dirt on this guy and insulting his intelligence and views at every possible chance.
What a jerk. Just one more empty head wanting to "serve"
Planned Parenthood has helped millions of women, control the size of their families with birth control. Provided much needed prenatal care, and cancer screenings. KKK???
How is a woman's health care clinic for the uninsured poor and teens like a hate group? The hpv vaccine they give? The pap smears? The birth control? The only thing wrong with the place are the maniacs outside with dead baby signs harassing teen girls trying to get who knows which service. My daughter got the hpv vaccine there last year. People were allowed to harass her all the way to the door. Disgusting.
The GOP digging its own grave one lunatic politician at a time.
Always looking for some one else to blame for their own crimes huh! So in in his opinion the women who decide to abort are completely innocent. So it is some white person who got a black woman to abort, but then the black woman did have nothing to do with it. And how did she become pregnant in the first place? Was she raped by a black man, was she a victim of incest, was she fooling around? Then black woman got pregnant by black man and decides to go to PP and get an abortion. But it is a white folk who is entirely to blame for the whole thing. Really!
I think his analogy is for shock treatment on how many babies die from abortion. He makes you stop and think...doesn't he? People are desensitized to what abortion really is (murder) and hence do not practice safe sex. They use it as birth control....and we pay for it through PP. Just because something is legal doesn't make it morally right....and just because someone is anti-abortion doesn't make them a nut. I applaud his passion and his morals.

Let PP keep giving those abortions to the urban youth. Helps keeps the population of "undesirables," under control.

Wow. A real flyspeck comment, and from someone who should know better.

Hey, it is what the founder of PP believed and the reason for PP's existence. (in the beginning)
Even the most ignorant should know that planned parenthood provides more services than just abortions. You can be against abortion but comparing it to the KKK is not only stupid but disrespectful to those who suffered from those terrorists.

Not remarkabl(y) ignorant nor ignoring the rol(e) that conservatives played in the revival of the KKK. Just making people aware of who started the KKK. Not one of the responses to my comments on this have addressed this fact. Same as always, change the subject.
As to the recent history comment. Who was the party that championed the Jim Crow south?
*******************************
Who was the party that acquiesced in accepting the descendants of those who created the Jim Crow South? Which party welcomed Strom Thurmond into its ranks? Which party struck a deal with said racists to win the Presidency in 1877? Which party saw no need to overturn Plessy vs Ferguson? Which party regarded the appointment of Earl Warren to be Chief Justice as a mistake ( Ike).
Proof that "crazy" knows no racial boundaries.
DEFINITION – "Extremely divisive rhetoric": rhetoric that would divide Black Americans from the Democratic Party
Mr. Jackson is being persecuted for telling the God's honest truth and exposing the lies and deception that Planned Parrenthood and the self serving liberal media would like people to believe when in reality, PP is getting filthy rich from the killing of innocent children through performing abortions, killing much of the black population not healthcare.
They are trying to smear Mr. Jackson with lies. Don't believe it.
In this case, "Extremely divisive rhetoric" means rhetoric that would divide Black Americans from the Democratic Party.
What is the issue here? Anyone bother to look up the history aof Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger. Margaret Sanger chamption of eugenics and dealing with the minority population problem through abortion. Thank you Pastor Jackson.
So the children he fathered out of wedlock are OK.

Yes, it was members of the Democratic party that started the Klan: now, can you tell me what relationship Nathan Bedford Forrest bears to the modern Democratic Party? None. As far as tolerating racism, the GOP, with all the Dixiecrat defectors the GOP welcomed into its ranks, has the dubious distinction of keeping that heritige alive. We repudiated racists and forced them out, yet a week does not go by when some embarrassing incident at the local, state or national level involving some GOP official putting his or her foot in his mouth, demeaning minorities. What I cited are facts about where the racists are most comfortable. Am I saying we are perfect? Hardly, but attempting to hang widely held racial views of 150 years ago as the norm for the Democratic party as it now stands is laughable, and only shows how you can't or won't connect the obvious dots in front of you.
No one is dragging women into PP for prenatal care, abortions or birth control. Or to hang, beat or kill them. To try and compare PP to the KKK is just inflammatory and ignorant. Regardless of your opinion of Margaret Sanger or anyone else, PP has evolved into often the ONLY place that low-income women can turn to for reproductive care. Stupid, stupid analogy.

Which made her no different from other people of her time. You deliberately imply those are the current beliefs of Planned Parenthood: are they now? Be honest.
Someday the right will start to understand that many dont think a fetus is a baby. That day is not today.
