IRS official Lois Lerner placed on administrative leave
Washington (CNN) – The Internal Revenue Service official overseeing the unit that targeted conservative groups for several years beginning in the spring of 2010 has been placed on administrative leave, according to Congressional sources in both parties.
Lois Lerner was the director of exempt organizations when the agency filtered applications for tax exempt status for words such as "patriot" and "tea party."

She publicly revealed the targeting two weeks ago in her answer to a planted question at a bar association event in Washington shortly before an inspector general report on the matter was made public.
The agency's new acting director announced late Thursday he was appointing Ken Corbin, who was deputy director of unit which processes tax returns and payments, to oversee the exempt organizations unit.
Lerner appeared before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday and stated she had not broken any laws or agency regulations. She then invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and declined to answer questions.
Republicans questioned whether she waived that right by making her opening statement.
Committee Chairman Darrell Issa will call her back to testify before the committee, his spokesman said earlier on Thursday.

You do not mention this is a paid leave of absence. She has used her position illegally and needs to be fired.

I wish I could get a PAID vacation after screwing up royally (probably breaking laws), and then refusing to answer my boss's questions about what happened. Testify honestly or get fired WITHOUT PAY.
And I do hope it was leave WITHOUT pay.

This woman needs to be fired ASAP. No reason the taxpayers should be footing the bill for a dishonest IRS worker making well over $100K per year.She deserves public shaming.
We need to start somewhere and this whole ordeal needs to really UNWIND. If the IRS Commissioner advised that she resign and she refused. Plain and simple she should have been LET GO. There are far to many TYPES like this in the FEDERAL SYSTEM. She is just the tip of the iceberg.

She should be fired. Her statement in front of the House Oversight Committee that she did not do anything wrong and broke no laws followed by then Invoking her fifth amendment rights was a disgrace.
Planted questions, the fifth....me thinks we've found the head of the snake, wonder how many friends she has doing the same thing at the IRS. Also wonder how many American taxpayers the senators themselves on that committee have asked the IRS to investigate? The pot and all that. That's why an agency like the IRS should not exist in America. We can gather revenue another better way.

The Congressional committee or Issa can not make her testify against herself. And, lets stop with the dibble that she must be hiding something or she must be guilty. Taking the 5th does not imply gilt or innocence. If you believe she is guilty because she is taking the 5th, then you should ask for your money back from the Glen Beck School of Idiot Law.
Lois Lerner is a public servant and the American taxpayer pays her salary so she should answer our questions.
She had to know that if she followed orders it might come to this. She's not that stupid. But don't worry. It's not as if she's unemployed, that is not receiving a paycheck and benefits and not holding steady for the all important retirement. She may have just gotten the stick but she knows the carrot is still coming. As far as Administration standards she did her job. All these people asking questions are not going to change the Administration's policies.
This is insane. At a time when firms like Apple dodge billions in tax obligations, we prosecute the very staff that is trying to collect every valid tax dollar available to the USA. All these politicians want is their time in front of the cameras. Take that away and very few committee members would show up. The media owes it to the public to know when it is being used and not cover these hearings.
