How McCain's daughter found out her dad was in Syria

(CNN) – Sen. John McCain slipped into civil war-torn Syria Monday to meet with rebels battling Bashar al Assad's regime.

So how did his daughter Meghan learn about her father's visit?

On Twitter, of course.

Meanwhile, one of McCain's top allies on Capitol Hill, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, poked some fun at his friend.

Mouaz Moustafa, with the Washington-based Syrian Emergency Task Force that helped plan McCain's trip, said the Arizona Republican entered Syria through Turkey, and remained in the country for several hours.

While in Syria, McCain met with Gen. Salem Idris, the leader of the Supreme Military Council of the Free Syrian Army. He spent about an hour meeting with Free Syrian Amry commanders from various parts of the country including Aleppo, Homs, and Idlib.

McCain is the leading voice in Congress for a greater U.S. role in ending Syria's civil war, which has been waged for more than two years. He has suggested establishing "safe zones" for Syria's rebels and taking out the regime's air assets, along with providing lethal weapons to Syria's opposition.

McCain wants to be a badass world leader. He wants to thumb his nose at the Russians by helping rebels. His big ego prevents him from questioning who these rebels really are and what would they do with our money and arms. All we need is another Al Qaeda hub in middle east.

Is it just me or he is one of the few Republicans quite "likeable" by Democrats? At least he talks logically, makes sense and seems like a real Patriot. Pity he could not be a President while people like George Bush can be twice (even after a monster blunder) ...

I may entirely disagree with his politics, but for his service and years as a POW, he will always be a badass in my book. And shame on all you free-loading civilians who think otherwise. You have no idea the price of freedom. He does.

Why is he there? Why Syria is our business? Why can't we just leave the middle east alone? If there was a civil war here and a Syrian official met with the American "freedom" fighters, would we like it or do we call it interference or terrorism or whatever? Leave the world alone, just leave them alone. we have enough problems here in the U.S. which needs urgent attention. Stop wasting our tax money with worthless trips to places we don't belong.

It's funny watching the left's reaction to this girl. When she's criticizing her father they think she's a political genius; when she's applauding him she has no idea what she's talking about.

it would have served him right if they would have took him hostage. He don't know who he is dealing with, this man is out of his mind. I respect that he served his country and what happen to him was horrible but, he has no business, going against the administrations policy and trying to pretend that he has power, he has nothing. He can promise nothing. He is just a crazy old man at this point with no credibility left, no matter what the president does, Graham and McCain are against it. We are just starting to get the republicans mess in Afghanistan an Iraq cleaned up and now they want to stick their nose in where it doesn't belong, we are not the worlds policemen. We can't afford it. How many deployments do they think the National Guards can do? They are out of their minds and don't give a damn about the country, jobs or anybody but themselves.

Meghan McCain, the next time your bad ass father calls for war, you sign up. Women have won the freedom to fight infantry, you sign up. Your father just visited and commended the Muslim Brotherhood rebels, ya the ones that rape and denigrate women at will, hang or behead gays, ya real bad ass, you shoulda signed up for that trip. Ya, your war monger dad, real bad ass, violated NDAA, ya with impunity. Your hypocrite father failed to post any of his Muslim Brotherhood Syrian Rebel photo ops on his Facebook, you know the day he visited those Al Qaeda tied rebels in Syria, on our Memorial Day, real bad ass. You must be high on crack, cause I'm not impressed.
