Washington (CNN) - CNN's latest health care poll, released Monday, has been in the political crossfire all week. Conservatives are using it as proof the policy is unpopular while liberals say it is an example for more aggressive policy on national health care.
As mentioned at the time, the national survey found that "a majority of Americans still oppose the nation's new health care measure, three years after it became law."
But as was pointed out immediately in the second paragraph of our wire story, "a CNN/ORC International poll released Monday also indicates that more than a quarter of those who oppose the law, known by many as Obamacare, say they don't support the measure because it doesn't go far enough."
As you can imagine, after the poll went up online, opponents of the Affordable Care Act highlighted the first number in the survey, that 54% of Americans say they oppose the law.
That's true.
But it's far from the whole story.
Supporters of the law point to the second number in the survey: That 35% oppose the health care law because it's too liberal, with 16% saying they oppose the measure because it isn't liberal enough. Add that 16% to the 44% who say they favor the law and that means that six in ten either support the law or don't think it goes far enough. Or in other words, 60% are on the other side of the most vocal conservative critics of Obamacare.
"It's sometimes difficult to remember, but at the start of the health care debate in 2009, many Democrats wanted nothing less than a single-payer system and were extremely disappointed when that approach was not part of the new law. That disappointment seems to have persisted among some groups," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
CNN/ORC has been asking the over "support/oppose" question and the "too liberal/not liberal enough" breakdown since March 2010, before the bill was passed by a then Democrat controlled Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama. The responses to both questions have stayed pretty much in the same ballpark over the three year period.
I do not care this law is needed.
The more I learn about how the irs is involved in the 100% democrat obama care, the more I realize how crooked things in Washington are these day. Some big heads need to role . The transparency obama promise turn out to be just a big lie. The ship is now about to sink and of we throw the unworthy trash overboard before it is to late, we just might be able to get her on the right course in defending our liberties and freedoms. A government employee who takes the 5th, and not to answer to her superiors is just plain wrong and stupid. Oh America where are we going?
This is the first time I've seen those of us in the 16% percent even mentioned in a mainstream media survey. The whole truth is kinda nice. And frankly, I don't see much ammunition for conservatives here. They - the 40% - don't like Obamacare. 60% of the rest of us felt, and still feel, reform was and us needed.
You're losing again, conservatives, and I'll tell you something else: the foot is in the door for eventual single-payer insurance provided by the government. Now there's a conspiracy you can believe in. Not just believe in, but bet on.
Nuance. Damn nuance. Repubs. hate nuance. It hits at their macho insecurity. George W. was FIRM, right or wrong. NEVER change your mind; unless it's making the kill or capture of Bin Laden a priority.
once it is all said and done most Americans will see the benefit in the affordable care act.
Single-payer, eh?
Single-payer systems lead to price controls and over-utilization. Over-utilization and price controls lead to substandard care. Substandard care leads to poorer outcomes.

At least someone has the sack to admit it.
Anyone wanting the IRS to overlook Obamacares new tax (Yes it is a tax, thanks Obama) wants the federal government to run their lives.
When this goes into full affect, I will be watching and listening to all those people who think it is the best thing since sliced bread. I doubt anyone will change their opinion until the full brunt of this monstrousity takes affect and breaks the bank and all of the working Americans. My take is a wait and see because I have seen and read too many POLLS by left and right that tend to lean in favor of their own agenda. For me, it would have been simpler to just fix the problems of denying existing conditions, payment limits, etc...., and then go from there. Like Nancy said, "We have to Pass the Law to understand what it does". Unreal...
Hey,
If you want Obama Care be man enough to pay for it! Too many of you expect someone else to divvy up the money! Today the Unemployment Report rose another 10,000. The summer of recovery is now in it's 3rd year. Now why am I reminded of Nero?
We need to try it !
The GOP would like to continue the same do nothing , corrupt none effective health care policy that has not worked .
I dont care what the right wing-nuts say now because it was there idea first. They should be made at Obama for stealing their idea.
"Single-payer systems lead to price controls and over-utilization. Over-utilization and price controls lead to substandard care. Substandard care leads to poorer outcomes."
All ideological drivel that's not borne out by the evidence in country's that have successfully implemented it. But hey, let's have some fun: would you like to follow your claim of "overutilization" with "OMG they're going to refuse everyone care...death panels death panels!!!!!" and then offer us an explanation that reconciles the two hysterias?
CNN polls are only good if they favor the GOP. If you dont believe me just ask one.
Yes its the same old crap republicans complaining about rising insurance premiums because of the ACA Act and quess what posters its because most insurance corporations know their free ride in raising those premiums is coming to an end...Just give it a chance and remember people if you are covered by insurance presently you don't have to change and no penalties as well...This is for the millions that are uninsured and either can't afford or can't get coverage because of a preexisting medical problem that insurance companies have been cherry picking their clients for years giving the healthy good premiums and basicly driving the unhealthy away with rising ones that eventually make it unaffordable to most policy holders struggling between paying a costly premium or eating its that costly some times...And quit this shoving it down your throats routine because when Pres.Obama first became a candidate for presidency his main focus as president said publicly was health care insurance for all and if you didn't remember I'm reminding you now and just think if everyone has a policy rates will go down because you're not having to help cover for someone that doesn't have a policy and if you take out the Medicare,Medicaid fraud aspects out of these it'll drop the premiums overall costs because fraud is rampant in todays health insurance industry !!Europe has socialized health care for years and its about time we have healthcare, insurance for all America as well, its the American way isn't it!!

At least he believes in actually paying for something up front, as opposed to the nonsense about tax breaks paying for themselves. Based upon that worhtless logic, the government should be swimming in money and there would be no national debt. In spite of 3 decades of increasing debt due in part to the tax cuts, the Right still persists in this fantasy about tax cuts not adding to the debt.
Well, when the estimated 20 million Americans lose their current healthcare coverage and are forced to pay for much more expensive coverage, we'll see how these polls change.
And when all of Obama's dumb little college kid voters get forced to pay thousands and thousands for healthcare insurance they may not want or need, we'll see how these polls change.
And when people that are forced to buy all this health insurance can't get in to see a doctor for months and months because the system is now jammed up with millions of government paid for people, we'll see how these polls change.
And now even the unions that supported Obamacare are speaking out against it and want it changed or repealed. HA!! I guess all you people got suckered by the Democrats. When will you ever learn?
And then when the "Affordable Care Act" drives costs through the roof while it adds hundreds of billions to the annual spending, well what we have here is what Democrat Max Baucas accurately described as a "train wreck".

I've said it all along. Obamacare wasn't a solution to our healthcare problems. It was a poison pill to our entire healthcare system. It is mean't to bring it down, collapse it, kill it, so that people demand the government take over the entire healthcare industry. It is the Morning After pill but on a much larger scale.

That's truly comical of you. Have anymore lies? You've been lied to so much you actually think it's common place

....and that leads to the dark side.
if all the tax free riders in this country paid their fair share then maybe we could afford obamacare or "free" healthcare for everybody. but half the country is getting a free ride on the backs of the other half. don't worry all you suckers carrying the load, your family will learn to live with less, eat less, do without, so that the collective can survive.
Washington state opens their Obamacare insurance exchange, and the two insurance companies w/highest premiums immediately lower their rates. The past two years have seen the smallest rate hikes(5%) in decades after 20-30% hikes. Remember when employers paid health benefits? That came to an end because of rate hikes under Reagan. Read the law for yourself, don't listen to partisan hacks, and convicted drug smuggler Limbaugh. You may learn something about both Obamacare and radio loud mouthes.

Reality is rarely comical, which explains why you persist in being the fool for believing the myths the Right has pushed at you for over 3 decades. I do find your delusional behavior comical, however: its better than street theater.
Obamacare is not unaffordable. Obamacare does not guarantee insurance for everyone. It imposes a tax penalty for people who do not have PRIVATE insurance, and it provides a subsidy for the poor who can't afford PRIVATE insurance. If you pay the penalty, you still don't have insurance, because paying a penalty to the IRS does not give you PRIVATE (or any kind of) insurance. If you get a subsidy, it helps but does not guarantee that you will have insurance. The subsidy goes toward buying PRIVATE insurance, because Obamacare is not an insurance program.
