TIME: Chuck Schumer and the Art of the Deal

(TIME) - Chuck Schumer has a unified theory about how to do a big deal in a divided capital.

“You have to walk in the other guy’s moccasins,” he says. “You have to think what they think. If you want to bring somebody onto your side, you have to figure out what motivates them. What do they need?”

Nice theory, Senator. But what are supposed to do when you already know that the other side's only goal is to destroy you? Hmm?

That is all true, but there is no compromising with today's republicans. They're even against legislation that they once supported.

The Democratic Party has become so extreme left, that they have become subversive to America, its founders, and its principles.

How can you agree to deals with those who are subversive????? Who want to change our entire government over, into a socialist dictatorship?

    You cannot.

Sure while us the ordinary Americans suffer. This self serving Congress has failed the people it is supposed to serve.

Great idea but when each side don't even talk to each other or want to have their picture taken together the idea of Schumers is dead in the water.

    Yes Sir,
Step right up, folks. It isn't going to cost very much at all. Only 30 Million more on the Welfare Rolls. You Tax Payers can afford it. Pay no attention to all those Off shore Businesses. Pay no attention to the 17 Trillion Dollar Federal Debt. Pay no attention to the 50 Million on Food Stamps. Yes Sir Folks, step right up. It will all work out.

Obamacare is so great that the democrats are trying to get rid of the Grassley Amendment. Which basically says they have to use the Obamacare exchanges (like us regular people). But the staffers and aides are complaining it will be to expensive for them?!?! What about the rest of us? Obamacare is the biggest, most expensive, flop there has ever been. More proof liberals have no sense, common or otherwise.

"figure out what motivates them. What do they need?”"

Except in this instance, the only thing motivating the GOP/Teatrolls and that they consider a necessity is trying to obstruct everything Obama does, destroy him and his legacy and keep America in a state of limbo/stasis with economic recovery entirely hampered so they can blame everyone's suffering on him. There's no making deals with them. They will break all promises and agreements at the first sign that holding to them will actually result in progress. They've done it EVERY SINGLE TIME so far...with the "gentlemen's agreements" on filibusters, walking away from the negotiating table as soon as I becomes clear they can't strong-arm everyone into "just do what we want and give up what you want" and manufacturing unnecessary crisis after crisis over things like the debt ceiling and funding the gov't. They are not the "loyal opposition" as the minority party and they have no intention whatsoever of compromising on anything. Immigration reform will get nixed for their own selfish reasons, primarily their fears of the changing demographics of the electorate, and because, above all, they have sworn never to "give Obama a win."

"Who want to change our entire government over, into a socialist dictatorship?"

You clearly don't even know what socialism is. Grow up. Read something. Inform yourself before speaking.

Good Idea w/room for expansion! It should be a prerequisite for all politicians to walk in the "moccasins" of Average Americans, for at least a week, kinda like Corey Booker did w/food stamps! The biggest problem politicians have is that they are Not mainstream! They Are the elite they're so hellbent on protecting & that's across the board! The Dems are at least trying to live in this millennium, but the GOTP are still trying to recapture an era which is History! Walk in our shoes, Congress People, I Double Dare y'all & see how you like working 2 part time jobs, because your employers don't want to pay "benefits" owed to fulltime employees! See how you like trying to get a healthplan while having "pre-exciting" conditions, see how you like not being able to pay for college/trade school for your kids! See how we are trying to make do, while y'all bicker, obstruct, spend $$$ on "witch hunts," pretend to be against Big Government, while taking advantage of all the Perks! Who's paying y'all, again!?

D'Ja Ever Notice. The Liberal's do everything ackbaswords. They gave you the Affordable Housing Act. It nearly crashed the Economy. Now they give you the Affordable Care Act. But many business can't afford it and stay in business so they cut workers hours of jobs altogether. It would be much simpler to allow the system to go back to where it was. But no, they think they have a better way. So, health costs go thru the roof and there is no one to pay for it. The Tax Payers are getting smaller in number because no one is hiring. You can only sell so much Snake Oil before you have to leave town. Unfortuntatly you are left holding the bag.

I used to think Schumer would be a vastly better Majority Leader than the useless Harry Reid, but this piece gives me pause. The last thing liberals need is another Democrat eager to make deals with Republicans.

    Aw, Yes,
The Tea/Trolls as you call them are trying to prevent the Liberal's from selling the country down the drain. Socalisim? That is what was tried in the Old Soviet Union. As you probabla know, it was a Smashing Sucess. Just like the Affordable Housing Act was and now Obama Care is about to. The Democrats had the Congress for 40 years. Their sucess are "Staggering".
