Bachmann running for president of…

(CNN) – Rep. Michele Bachmann had a big announcement to make Friday.

Speaking at the annual Faith and Freedom Conference in Washington, the Minnesota Republican teased the crowd of conservatives with a joke about her political future.

"I just recently announced that I wouldn't be seeking a fifth term in the United States House of Representatives, but I do have a very important announcement that I would like to make to each one of you today," she began.

"It is this: I do intend to run for president," she said, pausing for loud cheers from the crowd. But she had an addendum: "…of the Tim Tebow fan club."

"I had you going there for a minute didn't I? But you never know. You never know so hold onto your hat," she continued.

Bachmann, who's in her fourth term representing Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, announced in May she wouldn't seek re-election in 2014. But she said at the time she had no plans to fade from public view.

"Looking forward, after the completion of my term, my future is full, it is limitless, and my passions for America will remain," she announced.

Bachmann made a bid for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, eventually dropping out after the Iowa caucuses.

Bachmann used much of her speech to discuss the contentious issue of immigration reform. In her remarks, Bachmann said that "this is not an anti-immigrant speech. Do not walk away with that thought at all," but then went onto to criticize the bill that's backed by a bipartisan group of eight senators, saying the legislation would not secure the borders.

Talking about the bill, Bachmann said "amnesty will cost us a fortune."

And she added that "the estimate is that the average illegal alien that comes into the United States, the average age is 34 years old. The average education level is about the 10th grade. That's not to demean anyone who comes into the United States for a lack of education. But it isn't prudent to think that if you are 34 years of age with a 10th grade education or less, it's tough to believe that a person will be paying more in in taxes than they'll be receiving in benefits. And so what I am saying is that we need to be open to recognize what the cost is."

I thought you were running for President of Arkham Asylum because you're highly qualified for that job.

Michell Bachmann is a wing nut that shows just how far right the Republican party has drifted. The GOP is anti-unions, anti-women, anti-planned parenthood. anti-science, anti-blacks, anti-hispanics, anti-gay, anti-abortion, and worst of all they are ANTI TRUTH. The GOP pays homage to Ronald Reagan who said "facts are silly things."

It would be easy, too easy really to dismiss Bachmann as just another member of the Clown Car- and a sure fire loss for the GOP.
But here's the thing: she certainly represents a significant port of that new policy-less GOP/TEA Party movement. She has just as legitimate claim as any other member of the GOP to run for President in 2016 (providing jail isn't in her future...). Really this is a GOP issue. If they wish to continue down the path to dead-end party evolution- that's their choice and Bachmann may actually speed up the process. On the other hand, if the GOP actually wants to win national elections, and perhaps de-radicalize their ranks (it is called de-kookification here in AZ.), then they must expell Bachmann and her ilk as swiftly as possible and moderate their policy and message also ASAP.

She does have a point – people beyond typical schooling age, who lack any form of meaningful higher education, DO consume more federal funds and benefits than those who are well-educated.

Michelle Bachmann herself makes a pretty good example of the former category...

First of all, enoughodmthis dimbat! She is leaving and he worst thing about it is that she doesn't leave before her term is over so we will be inundated with stupid until 2014.
The conference of crazies called faith and freedom makes me wonder, putting aside separation of church and state which dethugs still dont et, how much mental freedom anyone can have when you pretend to follow any religion tomthepoint of fanaticism. Church, clinics, building bombings or murdering innocents seems to be part of what the insane do in the name of their religion.
I wonder what other flakes like relying altar boy, sanitarium and the bad hair guy are going to blab about.

She doesn't really me feel all warm and fuzzy about anything on the conservative side. Her information doesn't make any sense most of the time. I would hope that she learns that compromise and neogotiations aren't bad things.
