House passes late term abortion ban

Washington (CNN) - The House of Representatives Tuesday passed a GOP-sponsored bill banning so- called "late term abortions" - procedures for women who are beyond 20 weeks into their pregnancy. The vote was 228-196, mostly along party lines.

The bill’s sponsor, Republican Rep. Trent Franks, R-Arizona, stirred up controversy last week when he opposed an effort by House Democrats to add an exception for women who are raped, arguing that "the incidents of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low."

House Democrats seized on the comment, and because of the backlash GOP leaders later decided to add new language to the bill allowing women who get pregnant as a result of rape or incest to obtain an abortion if they report the crime to authorities.

The White House has threatened a veto on the legislation, but the Democratic-led Senate is not expected to take up the measure.

    House GOPhers are really working on the possible: Obama will veto it, the Senate won't even take it up. But the House chooses to waste our precious time and dollars on these quixotic efforts.

    Wasn't there an article earlier about low approval ratings for Congress? We begin to perceive why.

    What about a JOBS BILL? How about TAX REFORM? Maybe a BUDGET? Might hurt your brain to do something productive!!! Fighting the same issues that have been ruled on years ago and people understand to be a personal choice is not doing your job.

    The Supreme Court has already ruled 20 week (or similar) state bans on abortion are not Constitutional. Just Republicans wasting taxpayer dollars and time. For a party with "laser-like"focus on jobs, they have sure seemed to have spent all their time trying to change the reproductive landscape by firmly inserting the federal government in between a woman and her doctor.

    I am sure they'll wonder about what has gone wrong for them when they lose another 10% of the female vote in the next election cycle.

    Duh, Republicans, duh!!!!
    There is already a ban on late-term abortions, and states are allowed to set limits. So why all this redundant legislation?
    Thanks GOP, for once again proving to be the party of BIG government, esp. in the bedroom.

    This measure will take effect shortly after all the other ones the Republican dominated House passed seeking to undo the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). That is to say...never!

    It's just a symbolic headcount vote people. Nothing serious happens in the House nowadays.

    I wonder how many people have the courage to even Google "partial birth abortion" and look at drawings – not even photos – of how it's performed. Read about it, then comment on the bogus smokescreen of "preserving a woman's right to choose.

    This type of abortion is nothing short of outright murder of a fully-developed, 100% viable baby, and it is literally NEVER medically necessary.

    The child is delivered in reverse, with only the head still inside the mother, and then its skull & spinal cord are pierced and a high-powered vacuum tube is used to suck out its brain.

    The tragic irony is that, if the child's head pops out of the mother accidentally, it is murder in every single state to do the exact same things to that living child. What a difference 3-4 inches makes.

    This is all medical fact. But the odds of CNN's radical liberal censorship machine allowing these facts to be posted are near zero.

    And yet pro-abortion liberals and their allies nationwide defend this abomination with the bogus line of leaving it to a woman to decide.

    How gutless that people know the truth by refuse to face it and stand up for it!! Google it and learn!! Then look in the mirror and tell yourself that it would be ok with you if that happened to your child or grandchild.

    INSERT PROBE
    VACUUM BRAINS OUT
    IT FEELS GREAT !!!

    Their brains vacuumed out;
    their arms and legs pulled off;
    their tiny hearts shredded;
    their little skulls crushed;
    delicate fingers and toes
    just... medical waste.

    Murdered for simply being inconvenient.

    The premeditated, cold blooded murder,
    of innocent and defenseless pre-born babies
    with unique DNA takes place over 3,600 times
    every day in America.

    It's like 911 EVERY DAY !!!
    Just NOT at the same place; at the same time of day.

    We hold these truths to be self evident
    that ALL men are CREATED equal endowed
    by their creator with the right to LIFE.

    Exactly WHY SHOULD God bless America???

    Imagine that abortions have been made illegal in the US. Then what?

    First, any American wishing to terminate her pregnancy could go to Canada or Europe and have an abortion performed there. How could she be stopped? Seriously. Would it become illegal for a pregnant woman to travel outside of the United States? And how could such a prohibition be enforced?

    Second, who would be charged with violating the anti-abortion laws? The woman? Her doctor? Both? Would the person who drove her to the site of the procedure be charged with being an accomplice? And would any or all of these people be charged with murder? Would a woman who experienced a miscarriage face criminal indictment?

    Finally, imagine trying to select jurors in cases involving abortions. It seems unreasonable to believe that voters who have repeatedly elected pro-choice governors, senators, and congressmen would turn around and vote to convict the defendants. Remember all you need is one "not guilty" vote to hang a jury. When juries repeatedly refuse to convict defendants of violating unpopular laws, prosecutors will eventually refuse to seek indictments. It becomes a waste of their time and their resources.

    Those individuals who seek to make abortions illegal should answer the following questions: What would prevent women from seeking abortions outside of the US? Who would be charged with violating the law–the patient or provider or both? Would the state be required to investigate every miscarriage? And what would be done when jurors repeatedly refuse to convict those charged with violating abortion laws?

    Second, if abortions are criminalized, who would be punished for violating the law? Would any woman who had an abortion be charged with murder?

    And here we go again. The Republicans are trying to intrude in women's right by policing their bodies which cannot be policed. What will happen is the rich and powerful will break the law without retribution while the poor and the less influential comply with the law regardless of whether or not it is wrong. If America continues to vote these individual freedom hating people into office, then clearly something is wrong with us a nation. While abortion is wrong, it cannot be policed and therefore it should not be legislated.There are many more things that can be policed that the House of Reps should be focused on. I can assure you that abortion is not one of those things.
