Immigration bill could cut deficits by $175 billion – CBO

New York (CNNMoney) - A bipartisan Senate bill that would create a path to legal status for many of the 11.5 million undocumented immigrants in the United States could reduce deficits by $175 billion over the first 10 years and by at least $700 billion in the second decade.

That's according to an analysis released Tuesday by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

    No wonder congressional republicans are against it. Pubes are good at increasing deficit and debt.

    Big numbers, huge timeline. Over ten years?!
    The government would spend away any 'gains' within a year. Then you have 11 million former criminals dive into the government assistance programs, costing the country billions.
    Amnesty = we all lose!

    I believe the CBO also projected Obamacare would reduce deficit by $127 billion. How can Americans trust what the CBO details when it becomes political?

    I don't like the bill myself because it institutionalizes Gay Crow, but the economic benefits are clear. More dollars in the tax rolls to manage our social-net obligations, for starters. The lower-wages angle I think can be debated. But as the report says, even if it passed (and it won't) future impacts will depend on other legislation.

    But I think AN immigration reform bill would be a net positive. Now clean up the bigotry, give the House to the Dems (liberal ones, please) and we got something.

    Now watch the GOP say something like: "it isn't about the deficit (deficits don't matter), it's about our principles". This means, boys that your racism is showing. Again, and again, and again.....

    White male Anglo-Saxon Protestants over 50 ears of age still dominate both houses of Congress Border security is not the issue. Amnesty is not the issue. The issue is whether white men over 50 are willing to let Hispanics share power in the United States. A large percentage of that demographic will fight against it, and so hasten their own political demise.

  10. Immigration Reform

    Allowing naturalization for the 8-11 million or so immigrants to become citizens will not lower the defecit, but to make the United States become weaker financially and in the eyes of others. By doing this, it only adds more defeicit to the economy by allowing those to collect benefits, (ssi, welfare, Section 8, healthcare etc..) Not that the US is already doing this. The US can't stabilize the economy because of political reasons.

    How can my spouse, who has a College degree and more qualified than others, be denied a job because of others with less experience, age, have Bi-Lingual contribution etc.

    How can children be denied a student loan because one of their parents are deemed to earn too much to be qualified. But do they weigh in a mortgage, utilities, loans and so forth? What about the people that are collecting Section 8, food stamps, and sending their children to College? No child left behind is only left for those who the Government chooses. We hear these success stories about immigrants coming to America, getting an education, and being successful, but when can we hear the stories about children who want to become successful and can't because the Government elected to implement the Robin Hood theory.. Steal from others to provide for those who are stealing,

    1. It's not 'undocumented immigrants', it's illegal immigrants. They are criminals regardless of the reason they are here in the U.S.

    2. Illegal immigration cost far more than than the benefits.
