McCain: Middle East about to 'erupt'

(CNN) - Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, reiterated Thursday that the situation in Syria is growing more dire by the day, and he blasted the Obama administration for not doing enough to stop it.

"The Middle East is about to erupt," McCain said on CNN's "The Situation Room." "This is turning into a regional conflict."

The civil war has been spilling into Lebanon and Jordan and creating tension in other parts of the region, he added.

Last week the White House announced the U.S. would begin providing military support to Syrian rebel forces. McCain, who's long been an outspoken voice on the issue, suggested Syria needed all the help it can get. "It's an unfair fight," he said forcefully.

While the Obama administration has not detailed what military support it plans to give the rebels, Washington officials have told CNN that support includes arms, ammunition and, possibly, anti-tank weapons.

But McCain said that will hardly go far in helping the rebel forces fend off Bashar al-Assad's army.

"Light weapons do not do well against scud missiles and tanks, and it's just shameful," he told CNN's Jim Acosta.

Senator McCain, statistically I represent a population that at one time would have voted for you (until you selected a VP not using the head on your shoulder) regarding Syria, please stop pushing for war! The Middle-East – just as we and other countries – have a ton of human right violations and we cannot give or teach what we don't have. We cannot give respect for their working class, help them fight for equal justice, health-care and fair working conditions : we do.not have it for our own country and people. Also, how is it that we helped Iraq by killing and causing immense destruction?

You know, I'm getting sick of McCain, Graham & Co. constantly pounding on the war drum. If we can help by
sending weapons, and we have already sent a mountain of money, that's great. But, I'm against "boots and
    planes".
We have our own war going on here. That is the obstructionist Republicans/Teas trying to cut everything in
sight that would help the needy, especially children (cut 21B from food stamps), they ignore
Obama's "American Jobs Bill" sent to them in 2011 (because it might make him look good), ignore the
need for infrastructure repairs, the list is long.
But, they can spend money holding witch hunts, and demand more money spent for perpetual wars.
If the "Middle East is about to erupt", how about those closest to Syria try to help. Some are sitting
on their well-oiled backsides waiting for us, once again, to rescue them. Do it yourselves, for once.

How this man keeps getting re-elected playing the "blow everyone up" card is beyond me. Other countries probably consider him a terrorist and have him on a watch list.

Yesterdays news Senator McCain. What do you call the present situation in the Middle East.Let them take care of it themselves. e.g.MYOB. There is plenty for you to work on back home.

Why is it only the US that has to do something about it? Why not the U.N. isn't that what they're there for?

The middle east im sure will erupt if troops are sent there. Also considering most of the rebels are tied to terrorist cells im not sure even arming them is such a good idea. Here come WW3 with obama at the helm.

Why the hell should we care if rebel forces have less arms? Survival of the fittest. If they dont like the govt then they should leave. McCain wants to sell arms and increase pil prices. Thank God he isnt president.

This is the biggest mistake ever Obama is going to make. Syria was doing fine and Syrian were happy. We don't need any more Muslim extremist to control more country in the Middle East. Please leave them alone to battle their own battle.

John – you, Graham & Ayotte have been stoking a "REGIONAL CONFLICT" for damn near 10 years!. You wanted boots on the ground in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya,NOW Syria, and NEXT Iran.

Do you stop to think about the holes in your logic BEFORE you spout off your knee jerk war-first reactions? When will the Sunday shows stop putting this man on TV as if he was an intelligent, thoughtful guy capable of a solution to anything. We know the drivel we are going to get from McCain.

Calm down John... we know you love war but who are you going to send since our volunteer military has been pounded by perpetual war. And how are you going to pay for this? TEAParty wants to eliminate IRS so since there will be no revenue collecting how will you pay for this?

I am for not supporting any side in this war it's just a meat grinder for jihadists let them kill each other and possibly the white house knows this as well with their intention to supply some increased light weapons just to prolong the conflict longer because Assad is gaining ground in many areas. That being said what exactly is McCain looking for here? A US enforced no fly zone or our troops on the ground? Or does he want us to make the stupid repeated mistake of supplying anti aircraft weapons or more deadly weapons to Muslim extremists who will certainly end up on the receiving end of most these weapons sooner or later?

So by that reasoning the neo nazi's that live in northern Idaho who want to overthrow the US government should be given F16's because the US military has some F16's otherwise it is not a fair fight. The Syrian rebels knew what they were in for when they started this.
