The White House vs. Westboro Baptist Church

(CNN) – The Obama administration will not label Westboro Baptist Church a hate group, saying it's not the government's practice to apply the designation.

More than 367,000 petitioners had called on the White House to "Legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group." For months the Westboro petition was the top petition on the White House's "We The People" website.

Must we honor Westboro by running a piece on them on the 4th of July?

Anyway, fwiw, I agree with the Administration not officially "labeling" yahoos like Westboro as hate groups. Slippery slope, that.

Well, some of the conservatives who post here should like these guys - they hate Obama. Y'all got a lot in common, actually.

I find both Westboro and the Obama regime very similar in tactics...both try to bully their opposition

This is a total BS of these church idiots in 21st century. No wonder people are not going to churches, nor mosques, nor temples. True.

The Westboro folks are uniquely twisted body of people. I would remind folks that the Westboro crowd in no represent any mainstream religion- they are simply hateful looses who like the thrill of really shocking people with their vitriol and over-the-top (and very juvenile statements.

If they come to Arizona, to Prescott to do their hateful little presentation for the "Yarnell 19" (the brave hot shot fire fighters who died last Sunday), the Westboro folks may find their encounter a bit hotter than they like- these fire fighters are heroes- the Westboro freaks, zeros.
