State Department admits Kerry was on yacht day of Egypt coup

(CNN) - After the emergence of photographs showing Secretary of State John Kerry on his 76-foot yacht “Isabel” on Nantucket Sound on Thursday, the State Department issued an embarrassing correction Friday morning, back-tracking and acknowledging that the Secretary was in fact on the yacht on Wednesday, the day the Egyptian military staged a coup against democratically-elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy.

Originally, State Department officials were quick to deny a Wednesday tweet from CBS News’ Mosheh Oinounou that: “A @CBSThisMorning producer just spotted Secretary of State Kerry on yacht in the Nantucket Boat Basin. No response when she shouted ‘Morsi.’”

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki issued a statement Wednesday saying “any report or tweet that he was on a boat is completely inaccurate.”

“Since his plane touched down in Washington at 4 am, Secretary Kerry was working all day and on the phone dealing with the crisis in Egypt,” Psaki said. “He participated in the White House meeting with the President by secure phone and was and is in non-stop contact with foreign leaders, and his senior team in Washington and Cairo.”

But overnight, photographs emerged showing Kerry on “Isabel” and taking in some kayaking on Thursday.

The New York Daily News just published some of them.

On Friday morning, Psaki issued a second statement, acknowledging that Kerry was “briefly on his boat on Wednesday.”

Kerry again swamped by nautical controversy

She went on to say that “Secretary Kerry worked around the clock all day including participating in the President’s meeting with his national security council, and calls with Norwegian Foreign Minister Eade, Qatari Foreign Minister al-Attiyah, Turkish Foreign Minister Davutoglu, Egyptian Constitution Party President ElBaradei and five calls Ambassador Patterson on that day alone and since then he continued to make calls to leaders including Emirati Foreign Minister bin Zayed, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr.”

An administration official added that none of those calls happened while Kerry was on his boat.

So much for Psaki replacing White House child press secretary Jay Carney. What a corrupt house full of deceit.

No big deal, we're used to Dems lying to our faces then smirking about it because there is nothing we can do anyway. They are in charge, just ask them.

So what he fits in well with the rest of the Obama administration. Is this really news? Who would expect anything different. Maybe hiding in a bunker in the pentagon while seals take out Bin Laden and then taking credit for the whole operation from flying the chopper to firing the gun??? That would never happen.

Move along, folks, nothing to see here. Why shouldn't someone be allowed to vacation on his yacht along with his other 1% neighbors? Let's hope it comes equipped with torpedoes in case he's attacked again by Swift Boat Veterans.

I love stories like these which expose the liberal elitists. They put the insanity and hypocrisy that is liberalism front and center for all to see. Here we have the mega rich MSM talking heads who nightly join Obama in the hate fest against the so called 1%ers? The same crowd who have fleets of expensive autos, multiple mansions, some have private jets etc., and they rail against the evils of fossil fuels, and feel it’s the governments job to dictate what toilets and $50 dollar light bulbs we use. One could site thousands upon thousands of examples of blatant hypocrisy the liberal power brokers (News organizations) commit daily yet there is no outrage from the brain dead lemmings that worship at the alter of socialism.
Liberals are truly a foolish bunch that has to resort to racism, class warfare and lies to keep the lazy and ignorant forever in the dark for their message, their vision for our nation is truly disastrous.
So I applaud, CBS news for their pulling back the veil for a peek into the void.

It truly annoys me when I read all of these negative comments about the Obama administration and the democrats being liars because of this story. They act like no other administration has lied. Here's a news flash for you: THEY ALL LIE! About something. Look at our last president. He told the biggest lie of them all. That Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that they sponsored those responsible for 9/11. LIES!!! Giving the US false reasons to go to war in Iraq, costing us billions and billions of dollars and thousands of lives, both American and Iraqis. But hey...guess that doesn't compare to a spokesperson getting the facts wrong about John Kerry's whereabouts. Smh.

Whether he was on his boat or the space shuttle, he had access to a phone, email, and the Internet. Big frakkin deal. I think that, since we've gone to a 24/7 news cycle, sometimes the media runs out of REAL news.

I believe we are going to quickly learn what a great secretary of state Hillary Clinton was.. She would have never been any where near a yacht during a crisis like this... He's lame !

Why is this even a story? So an American government official was on a yacht - what's wrong with that? What difference does it make, that a U.S. citizen is on a yacht the day before the nation's biggest holiday? What, do people think he should have been jetting to Cairo? Holed up in some "Situation Room" somewhere? Egypt, or any other third-world country, can erupt at any freakin' time .... expecting U.S. officials to be three-pieced and doing the politico dance 24/7 is just ludicrous. He was on a yacht; he wasn't on a yacht; yes, he was on a yacht. Why does it even MATTER???

IIt's not about the fact that he was on his own yacht on a holiday – we all agree he has every right to do so. The problem is that, once again, this administration tell another inexplicable and unnecessary lie.

You know, it's almost impossible for me to believe a single person in the current administration is still in power. Every eligible voter in the US shares in this shame.

Not about Kerry being on his boat. Nothing wrong with that. It is about not telling the truth when the truth even sounds better. Absolutely no reason to lie.

I'm sure he has a phone on his yacht. And what was he going to do in the office that he couldn't do there?

When Katrina was going on everyone of the Libs were screaming and crying Bush was kicking back on his ranch doing nothing or just flew over New Orleans on his jet without caring.
What would have been said if he was on his yacht or on his way to Las Vegas to get some campaign donations? Remember the BP oil spill and how many days it took for Obama to get down there?
And to think everyone was upset with Romney's wife owning a Show Horse but not upset about Kerry on his yacht.
    Double Standard!
