Has the road to political redemption gotten shorter?

Washington (CNN) - Politics is full of second chances.

Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford - now U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford - is living proof. Former Rep. Anthony Weiner is trying to travel the same road to political redemption. And now add former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer to the list, as he embarks on a similar journey.

Question: Has the road to political redemption gotten shorter? Sure has. The populace, thanks to many factors has the attention span of a ferret on crack. And the politicians love it. They can almost do anything they please, with no repercussions at all. You've been bought and sold. You just don't recognize it yet.

I think the sad truth is in this world of constant information the old adage about any publicity being good publicity is more true than ever. Name recognition in politics is a good thing. People remember the name but after a few months forget the circumstance under which they heard it.

I look at it this way, If you cannot take care of your own house, why do you think you can take care of your country, your state or your city? Because of the power we give these folks, we need to hold them to a higher standard. That includes the left, the right and all in between and all in beteween

I remember that guy, Jimmy McMillan. Another non truth teller, a fraud. He lived rent free when he ran for governor and now he is running for mayor.

The GOP (who did not support him) had Sanford and Vitter! Either we forgive them all or we replace them all. I'd like to replace them but with what?

Lets also not forget Mark Foley, Larry Craig, Eric Massa and Bill Lee. No party has cornered the market on virtue and marital fidelity. Congrats, Steveo, on being honest. None of these moral lepers deserve the privilige of running.

  11. If it is good enough for our kids...

.... it is good enough for ur politicians. ZERO TOLERANCE. If you break the trust placed in you while holding office, YOU ARE GONE FOREVER. No more elected positions. Surely there must be SOMEBODY out there that isn't a screw up that can run for the office.

How did you feel about Vitter and his diaper-clad visits to the DC Madame? Did you swear off the GOP, or look the other way and wince?

How about Bob Ney, Duke Cunningham, Tom Delay, etc. Why not throw in Bob McDonnell, who's having to beat back a story that he is getting ready to resign? How about the former Republican Governor of IL, Ryan, who just got released from prison? Do you think Scott Walker is going to be charged for his use of government equipment to get himself re-elected? We could go on and on and on about this. Neither party has cornered to market on virtue or sin.
