Austin, Texas (CNN) - The Texas House of Representatives approved a measure Wednesday that would place broad new restrictions on abortions in the state.
A state Senate committee is scheduled to vote Thursday on whether to send its version of the bill to the full Senate.

Gov. Empty Boots and his theocrats strike again...good grief
It's a shame democrats think everything is a right even when it takes from one to give to another.
That insures that Texas will be off of my vacation list. I will also endeavor to not purchase anything from a company in Texas. Already cheered against all Texas athletic teams.. What a sorry state and legislators, must be prepping for US Congress jobs!
Thank you, at least you folks have the decency to restrict late term abortions-no brainer! The pro death world view pushed by the far left is really ugly and immoral!
Way to go Texas. With any chance of that fetus feeling pain this decision is a no-brainer.
And now, in NC, the GOP/Teatrolls are trying to stealth legislate these same types of deliberately prohibitive anti-abortion measures WITHOUT PUBLIC NOTICE, by tacking them onto a completely unrelated bill about motorcycle safety.
THE WAR ON WOMEN CONTINUES. This isn't just happening in TX, no matter how tunnel-visioned the MSM's reporting on it is. GOPers/Teatrolls are doing this all over the country and trying to rein in all these uppity women who think they should have control over their own wombs.
I challenge anyone who is believes that abortions are a "personal freedom" or a "matter of one's privacy" to look at images of a 20 week old fetus in the womb or even at a 26-28 week live birth baby in your local hospital's neonatal unit. Abortion is the ending of a LIFE. According to the "moral code" we all, well, many of us, have agreed to live by, the taking of another human's life is MURDER.
First, I am a democrat. Second, I don't think abortion should be used as birth control. Third: I respect all life, and in the case of a child, the unborn child and the living child. Fourth: I respect choice. While I do not a agree that on demand abortion would be the choice in my family, I do recognize the complicated and heart wrenching decisions women and men make to terminate a pregnancy. I do believe it is not my decision, nor should it be any one else's to interfere with their choice, whether we agree or disagree with their decision.
Stay classy, Texas.
Boycott Texas, don't go there or buy goods produced in Texas, until they treat women as people.
Great Job!! Why aren't more standing up for the defenseless?
The magic man in the sky would be very proud that you saved lives. Now go execute some prisoners.
Great job Texas. Who needs a god when you guys are playing one?
News flash, 20 weeks = 6 months. If a rape is the cause of the pregnancy they why would a victim wait 6 months to decide the fate of their child? I think libs should be happy that they have 6 months to kill that baby. Not like they would ever consider the consequences of their actions. Is it really pulling at the Mothers heartstrings to listen to the baby’s heartbeat if she is going to have them put a needle in the child’s head and inject poison? Call the child a thing if it helps you sleep at night but make sure to classify an abortion as a convenience instead of a medical procedure. And these are the people who are against guns. Disgusting.
No one is for abortions and everyone should find ways to prevent them. But taking away the rights of women is not one of those ways. Birth control and the morning after pill are the best ways to prevent the need for abortions..... oh but your against those. So basically conservatives are against ways to reduce the need for abortions which creates more abortions and are for reducing a woman's safe access to abortions and other care. And then you yell about killing babies but support the death penalty. This is almost like complaining about it being to hot and having droughts but not wanting to control the pollutants that aid in global warming..... wait a minute you guys have that view too. Well while the religious right may be misguided at least they are consistent.
Big government telling woman what to do with their bodies.
"Good Old Boys" should not be allowed to control a woman's body....
I AM........................... Then maybe we should stop prosecuting all crimes, it's not our business what 'choices' people make to kill, attack or affect others.
That was pretty stupid, you know it's wrong and the child is a life but it's not your place to tell someone that? And don't focus on the .001% that have anything to do with 'heart wrenching' decisions. There are more than a million abortions each year, OBVIOUSLY it is being used as birth control!!!
I am happily married. Already a mother of two. And thrilled to be pregnant with twins. But at 16 weeks we discovered one of the fetuses had significant abnormalities. The other twin was healthy. So began a quest of specialist consults – anything and everything available to us to figure out a positive outcome. We wanted this pregnancy. We wanted two more children. But to save our healthy twin from being born 10+ weeks early (all specialists agreed this would be the case) we terminated the twin with no viable life. With the ruling today I presume I would not have been able to make this decision – and my healthy boy, born at full term, would have had a tragically different start to his life.
Wow, the lack of actual comprehension on the issues in TX are astounding. Less than 2% of abortions are performed after 20 weeks – the majority of these late term abortions are the result of finding major medical maladies. so you think it's healthier for the mother to carry a dead baby to term? So much for looking out for the well being of the mother. The fact and the primary issue of this legislation is eliminating quality health care for women. The number of health care clinics serving women will decrease substantially – that is the issue here. the notion that restricting prenatal care and family planning services is actually counter to the claims from the right. It sure is easy to fleece rubes these days...
Spring, I have already accepted your challenge. A few years ago when I was in college, an anti-abortion group set up a booth on the quad with numerous pictures of fetuses in all stages of development. I forced myself to stand there for several minutes and take a good look at them all. It did not change my views. I continue to believe that a women's right to make her own choices regarding her body and her health supercedes any rights an unborn fetus may have.
all of you claiming to fight for women's rights seem to forget that half the babies killed through abortion are women. What about their rights. Funny how truly malicious people justify their erroneous behavior behind women's rights! Beyond religion science proves unequivocally that the baby is its own life from conception through death. I'm sorry that humans are an inconvenience for many of you guitar really simple.... Be responsible and take birth control if you don't want kids.. Hmmmm personal accountability, something else the left doesn't comprehend
These laws are for poor people. The rich will travel aboard to get an abortion. Here we go again. There is nothing new under the sun.
Mopery
Just wait until they're done making abortion illegal.
I am curious as to what they THINK they are accomplishing? Abortion will never cease, be it legal or otherwise. So, should these fools follow through with their temper tantrums and make abortion illegal, whose mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, wives, and girlfriends will all the little pro-life whiners prosecute first? The Dem women or the Repub women? Because this is NOT a political party preference issue. There is no doubt whatsoever that women from both sides of the aisle have for whatever personal reason had abortions throughout our country's history.
i'm sorry but I do not consider a fetus viable on its own outside the mother's body. No way it can fend for it self.
