(CNN) - A top staff member for Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minnesota, was arrested and faces theft charges involving objects stolen from a House office building, U.S. Capitol Police said.
Police said they arrested Javier Sanchez, 37, of Virginia, last Thursday after an investigation, but the matter just came to light publicly on Monday night.
A staff directory had listed Sanchez as Bachmann's legislative director, but it was unclear if that was his most recent position.
The congresswoman's office confirmed Sanchez had worked there but a spokesman said he was "no longer with the office" as of Friday. Dan Kotman, Bachmann's spokesman, directed further questions to Capitol Police.
A Capitol Police spokesman said thefts occurred in the Rayburn House Office Building earlier this year. Many personal offices for representatives as well as various committees are based in the building.
Police did not describe what was taken and did not release other details of the case.
Either would be newsworthy, but someone in congress who is NOT stealing might be more surprising.
Batty Michelle Bachmann perfectly embodies the Guns Over People tea potty. Crazy.
In law–respondeat superior. Let superior be responsible. I think we need to watch this women too... Cameras–get ready.
Too bad it's not Bachmann facing charges.
WOW ... so she is having staffers rips off stuff from other Congressmen?
