Bush 41, security detail, shave heads to show solidarity with young cancer patient
(CNN) – Last week, former President George H. W. Bush had a full head of hair when he gave President Barack Obama a pair of socks. Today, it's gone, shaved to the scalp in solidarity with a young cancer patient.
According to a statement from a spokesman for the 41st president, Bush shaved his head after members of his Secret Service detail shaved theirs, meant to show solidarity with Patrick, the two year-old son of one of the detail who is battling leukemia.
Members of the security detail have already created a website meant to raise money to pay for Patrick's treatment. His last name is being withheld along with that of his father Jon.
At 89, Bush shaved his head this week after making a donation to Patrick's leukemia treatment. Bush and his wife Barbara lost their second child, Robin, to the disease six decades ago at the age of four.
According to the release, the security detail is also organizing a motorcycle benefit run next month that will ride through the Maine countryside and host a lunch and silent auction to raise money for Patrick's treatment.
Wonderful way to support a family and especially a child who is battling leukemia! A class act, President Bush!
This is what a REAL President looks like, and acts like.
He empathizes with the truly needy, and shares their ordeals as best he can.
He never penalized his people to make them pay when he didn't get his way.
Against great odds, he tried to unite us as Americans, rather than divide us racially, politically, and economically.
He never went out of his way to attack those whose philosophies differed from his own, or his Party’s.
He never turned his back on his own people, whether ordinary citizens or ambassadors, or abandon them, leaving them to die with great pain at the hands of terrorists, and then turn around and minimize the act perpetrated against our Country.
He was, and still IS a man of High Honor and Integrity, a trait passed on to his Family. He is an American id Mind, Body and Heart. He is who all Presidents, past and future, should be held up to for comparison.

Where are the $millions of oil for the Bush family? Can't they just dump some fractions of a $million and save the child?
Thank God for Obamacare. Now if you get sick, you only have to pay out of pocket up to a certain point and there are no more annual or lifetime caps on coverage.

Cancer is not an incurable disease, it is caused from pollutants in our environment.
The primary cause of cancer is radiation exposure (not just ultraviolet, it is large particle radiation that makes its way to earth – cosmic rays). The best way to protect yourself is to only go outside in the early morning or late afternoon after the sun is behind the horizon.
Here is my recommendation for anyone who is battling cancer:

Just another example of how decent this man has been his entire life. Too bad it means basically nothing to today's America. First hand experience... oral Leukemia medicine costs $135,000 a year. I'm fourtunate to have great insurance. Not everone is so blessed.
I am NOT a Republican, but most of the Bush family seem to be REAL classy people.

Yes they have Government insurance, however like most it pays 80 percent and you pay 20 percent. the 20 percent can add up. Contrary to what most Republicans want you to believe federal insurance is not free medical care. They also have to pay premiums
Reply to Piscataquis: Obama did, he laid the foundation for kids and people like Patrick that they would have good health care. Too many children see their families ripped apart by not having health insurance or having poor health insurance that they can barely afford. Hats off to Pres. Bush for shaving his head to help, but seriously.... its not enough.
His detail are probably like family to him and this young man (and his family) need as much prayer and support as possible. At 89 it is certain that GB can see and feel his mortality. What a kind and gracious act on his behalf to show that level of support to his staff. In third grade we lost a fellow scout in our den to the same. My father had chosen him for the medal at the scouts olympics race where the boy and I had finished even and tied in event. Dad then asked me to not question or challenge his decision in the ceremony closing, but to allow him the honor, which was hard because I'd never won that race's medal. 6 months later I attended this boy's funeral and saw he was buried wearing that medal, as a prize for achievement leaving this world. What a lesson that was.
@Nancy: If his case is typical, he has about a 90% chance of cure. My 21 year old son had leukemia (twice) as a child, is now 15+ years off chemo and doing well.
I just love the way people rally around expres bush. Its too bad all those kids in Iraq are not around to shave their heads. Because of his incompetence many young American soldiers died. He should have told the Kuwaitis' to give Sadam the money they stole from him. Why in this country do we forget just what despicable things people have done, then heap kudos on him because he soes something so simple.
Isn't that treatment covered by ObamaCare?
