(CNN) – Last week, former President George H. W. Bush had a full head of hair when he gave President Barack Obama a pair of socks. Today, it's gone, shaved to the scalp in solidarity with a young cancer patient.
According to a statement from a spokesman for the 41st president, Bush shaved his head after members of his Secret Service detail shaved theirs, meant to show solidarity with Patrick, the two year-old son of one of the detail who is battling leukemia.
Members of the security detail have already created a website meant to raise money to pay for Patrick's treatment. His last name is being withheld along with that of his father Jon.
At 89, Bush shaved his head this week after making a donation to Patrick's leukemia treatment. Bush and his wife Barbara lost their second child, Robin, to the disease six decades ago at the age of four.
According to the release, the security detail is also organizing a motorcycle benefit run next month that will ride through the Maine countryside and host a lunch and silent auction to raise money for Patrick's treatment.
I didn't agree with his politics, but always felt he was a stand up guy. This just proves the point. Too bad his son fell so far from the tree. Nice move 41.
Finally, even Bush himself agrees: NO MORE BUSH!!
Who cares! He and his son were the worst presidents of all times!
I'll have what 41 is having in a mason jar with a side of what 44 is having in corn cob pipe. Maybe a little 43, later up stairs, if I'm not too tired from smiling.
Interesting. Glad they decided to acknowledge and honor Robin's death this way. One of the reasons why GWB jr is so screwed up is because HW and Barbara refused to publically acknowledge their daughter's death – this really did a number on GWB's head growing up. Looks like they are trying to make up for what happened. Glad.
Push this to the front page. What a great story!
George Bush has always been a great man. And he still is.
Thank you 41' love it! Beautiful baby, God bless you and I will keep you in my prayers forever.
The republicans would rather "praise" someone for shaving their head rather than DO anything to help. Words are cheap just like they are. If bush was as great as they claim he would pay for treatment for the child, instead of making the parents beg.
That's one scarey looking dude.
No, not the poor kid.
Regardless of one's feeling about 41's politics, you gotta love his heart. Well done Mr. President.
@Steve, I'm pretty sure the democrats passed obamacare. I seem to recall them saying we'd find out what was in that bill after they passed it. Pretty sure it was just additional taxes on the people that already pay for health insurance. I know mine just went up $250 a month.
@piscataquis, I'm betting he would tell a detail member to go out and pick him up a packet of Skittles. To soon?
That's probably the only decent thing I can remember this guy doing. I'm glad that others are donating to help this kid and his family out, but it is sad that there are so many people who don't have connections like this in order to raise money for their kid's treatment. We have got to figure out a better way to manage our healthcare. My kid broke his arm last month, and the ER trip alone cost 5K. That doesn't even cover the orthopedic doctor and 2 casts. I can't even imagine how much money it takes to treat cancer.
how cute! 🙂
Good job Mr. President.
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! Always knew knew he and those around him were a class act. Thanks Mr. President for leading the way.
Well done Mr President!!!!!!
So an active duty Secret Service agent, protecting the former President of the United States, has a family healthcare plan that requires him and his coworkers, other men and women that protect the most powerful people in the world, to raise money to pay for medical expenses not paid by his insurance, to keep his child from dying.
Good go, President Daddy Bush. Proves again, he would have made a great President during a second term.
What a kind gesture, and for anyone making cracks about their insurance, often times the donation aren't necessarily for treatment or hospital bills. Many parents of children with cancer miss considerable amounts of work.
Kudos to "41". I thought it was the code in his new motorcycle club.
President Bush has lived the hardest thing a parent can, losing a child. His solidarity is wonderful.

"Anyone want to lay odds on whether or not Obama would ever do something this awesome?"
If he did you'd be the first to criticize him for it, I'm sure. Pretty cowardly of you to politicize pediatric cancer.
A super gesture by Bush the elder. Would love a copy of the pic of all the baldies – quite impressive – and wishing for a speedy recovery for the youngster and a long and productive life to follow!!! Best wishes.
Way to go 41! I know this child's fight has a special meaning to you and Mrs. Bush. I'm sure Robin is smiling down on you!
