NY voter confronts Weiner for double standard

(CNN) – At least one Staten Island resident doesn't agree with Anthony Weiner's assertion his mayoral bid is representative of the middle class in spite of the new sexting revelations.

Weiner was confronted by the voter right after telling reporters he would likely soon stop answering questions about his previous online relationships.

Identifying herself as a Democrat and retired New York City Department of Education employee, Peg Brunda told Weiner she spent 21 years as a teacher and then nine as an assistant principal. As a city employee, "had I conducted myself in the manner in which you conducted yours, my job would have been gone," Brunda said.

Brunda continued, "I don't quite understand how you would feel you have the moral authority as the head administrator in the city to oversee employees when your standard of conduct is so much lower than the standard of conduct that's expected of us."

For his part, Weiner asked Brunda whether she would be voting for him, to which she answered with a definitive no.

Weiner did not respond directly to Brunda's assertions. "I want to let your neighbors make the decision for themselves based on all of the information that they have," he told her.

Brunda in turn told Weiner that while he is trying to get the middle class vote, the middle class "cannot conduct themselves in this manner," she said.

Polls that had put Weiner close to or even leading Democratic front-runner Christine Quinn, the City Council speaker, have not been kind since it was revealed this week that he continued sending lewd messages and photos to women he met online even after his 2011 resignation from Congress.

The latest NBC 4 New York/Wall Street Journal/Marist survey shows Weiner down 9% points from the 25%-20% lead he had over Quinn in late June. Quinn now leads Weiner 25%-16%.

To Brunda, Weiner defended his refusal to bow out of the mayor's race, saying that politicians frequently encounter individuals who don't like them or something in their background. "That's the way the process works. But that does not mean I stop running because I run into a person who respectfully asked me a question and they disagree with me," he said.

"I don't stop running. I keep plowing ahead. Because the things I care about, I care about these communities."

Most people in NY will see nothing wrong with his behavior and still vote for him anyways. I feel sorry for his friends and family. How humiliating to even know this guy. And for all the women who wanted to cash in on exposing this guy, you should all be humiliated by their family, friends, and coworkers. They want to cash in and stay anonymous? Get real.

LOL Krista Cole – I assume your referring to Mark Sanford. He was the former Governor of South Carolina, not North Carolina. It's good to know how much smarter you New Yorkers are.

Weiner is a jerk and a fool. He seems to have an addiction to sexting and he has no business running for office. I say this as a lifelong Democrat, I wouldn't vote for him for dogcatcher or town janitor, no way nohow.

Maybe he needs treatment, I don't know, but he really has a problem.

It's time to pull out, Weiner. See if you can get your job back at CNN.

  6. Double Standards = Democrats

Pot, meet kettle. Democrats scream at everyone else about how "what they do is no one else's concern". I want to gay? It doesn't affect you. I want to get an abortion? It doesn't affect you. I want to be a man dressed as a woman and use the womens restroom? It doesn't concern you. I want to send messages to another person via text message? SWEET HOLY NOBODY! (because we're Democrats and God is fictional) ITS THE RIGHT AND BUSINESS OF EVERY HUMAN BEING TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THOSE TEXTS SAY!!!

    Hypocrites.

Mr. Weiner would be better suited as a used car salesman or a ticket taker at a movie theater.

If Weiner were running for office in SC this would benefit his campaign.

This woman has some cojones! I truly respect her opinion and she makes some great points. She actually made me smile! For me...I really do not care if he is sending pics of his cojones to whomever he has, how many ever times. Bottom line, NYC voters will decide. I would still vote for him, but I do not live in NYC. Thus, all of these comments (mine included and those other than New Yorkers) are just drivel...plain and simple.

He's a creepy exhibitionist who lies about it and is so stupid that he keeps getting caught in his lies about it. Given all of that, I'm not sure how New Yorkers can take this guy seriously. I wouldn't really care about any of it if he were a private citizen. Then it would be between him and his wife and the various other women with whom he is involved. However, he is not a private citizen. He's a politician, thus his every word or deed since birth is subject to review and criticism. Plus, the mayor is the chief executive of the city. A city whose other employees could be fired for doing what he has done. I can't see voting for someone whose offenses would get him fired from other city jobs.

"I don't stop running. I keep plowing ahead. Because the things I care about, I care about these communities."

If he actually cared, he would never have run in the first place or would pull out right now. His entire conduct indicates that the thing he cares about most in the world is himself.

What an incredible arrogant liar. His wife should've left him.
