Weiner spokeswoman apologizes for trash-talking about ex-intern

Editor's note: This story contains graphic language that may not be suitable to all readers.

(CNN) - Anthony Weiner's communications director apologized Tuesday night for bashing a former intern in a scathing interview laced with four-letter words.

"In a moment of frustration, I used inappropriate language in what I thought was an off the record conversation," Barbara Morgan said in a statement to CNN. "It was wrong and I am very sorry."

Morgan added that she called and apologized Tuesday night to the former intern, Olivia Nuzzi.

Talking Points Memo, a left-leaning news organization, published a report late Tuesday night, quoting Morgan as she responded to a New York Daily News article written by Nuzzi, who described an unflattering account of Weiner¹s New York City mayoral campaign.

"(Morgan) went off on a curse-filled rant about Nuzzi, describing her as a fame hungry 'b**ch' who 'sucked' at her job. Morgan also called Nuzzi a 'sl*tb*g,' 'tw*t,' and 'c**t' while threatening to sue her," the TPM article stated.

In the New York Daily News story about her brief internship on Weiner¹s campaign this summer, Nuzzi wrote about other interns who were on the campaign simply seeking to get access to Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, in hopes of scoring a connection to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a potential 2016 contender. Abedin is a longtime adviser to Clinton.

Nuzzi also shared a story about Weiner struggling to learn interns' names–despite boasting of his memory skills–and blasted the campaign's professional staff as inexperienced. She belittled Morgan, in particular, saying her last job was a press secretary role for the New Jersey state education commissioner.

"There were a lot of short résumés around the office," Nuzzi wrote. "The candidate sometimes seemed inexperienced, too."

Morgan told TPM that Nuzzi "sucked" at her job and she tried to fire the college student, but Morgan said "she begged to come back and I gave her a second chance." Morgan described at length Nuzzi's work ethic and attitude, saying she sometimes didn't show up for work at all.

"F**king sl*tb*g. Nice f**king glamour shot on the cover of the Daily News. Man, see if you ever get a job in this town again," Morgan said, according to TPM.

The dust-up marks the latest road bump in Weiner's campaign. After admitting last week that he continued to send lewd messages to women after his 2011 resignation from Congress, the mayoral hopeful saw his poll numbers plummet. His campaign manager, Danny Kedem, quit over the weekend, and questions continue to pour in about Weiner's online relationships.

But the former congressman has repeatedly vowed to stay in the race. He reiterated that sentiment in a video released by his campaign Tuesday night.

"I know that there are newspaper editors, other politicians that say, boy I wish that guy Weiner would quit," he said. "You don't know New York. You certainly don't know me. Quit isn't the way we roll in New York City."

Sadly, Weiner and those around him live in a fantasy world where behaviors and language the rest of the world deems subhuman is engaged in with vigor. In my 14 years away from New York City I miss little and these types of narcissists even less. We get the politicians and the government we earn but these folks are not worth spit.

Sounds to me like Barbara Morgan should be the one having to worry about the job hunt in the future. How unprofessional can you get?

My mother always said you could judge people by the company they keep. Yet again I see she was right.

Hey Morgan, stop with the four letter rant. This will only excite the Weiner and we will have to put up with more of his johnson pics.

The woman was upset because her high paying job as the Mayor's Cief Assistant vaporized in the last two weeks. Women can curse like sailors when they get mad. I know my wife sure can.

Weiner should really "QUIT" while he's a head! Seriously! Is this guy for real? It's time to quit or should I say, "withdraw"!

So, Mr. Weiner, I'm not a journalist, not even an American, but I heartily suggest you need to quit, and I predict right now that you will quit due to the ever increasing amount of pressure you have caused because of your character weaknesses, even if as you say, "Quit isn't the way we roll in New York City." Being incredibly rude to a staff member, swearing in the most obscene way like you have with Ms Nuzzi, is simply not acceptable in any public position, and your behavioral "outbursts" clearly suggest you are out control on more than on one level and arena of life. I would be very displeased if I were a New Yorker and someone in your hoped for position would suggest that your behavior and lack of ethics, (being married while making lewd suggestions online), are all a part of being a New Yorker, what is the fuss, and that it is "normal" for me to simply "roll" on! Wow!! What a disappointment you are as a hoped for politician! Show some shred of class and announce you're leaving this political race...New Yorkers certainly deserve better than a man filled with character weaknesses, who does not have the wisdom to recognize his deeply ingrained flaws, and is in denial regarding this entire, tragic situation...give your fellow New Yorkers some much needed relief, avoid having your wife to experience more therapy because of your deeply disappointing behavior, and as mentioned earlier, show some class and call an end to your campaign. This is certainly not the time to "roll" on Anthony...whether in New York or any other city...

You have men like Anthony Weiner and Bill Clinton who have disgustingly inappropriate relationships with young women. To make it worse, you have Huma and Hillary excusing and justifying their behavior. The Weiner's are following the Clinton's example.

This is an insult to women everywhere.

It is hard to trust the motives of interns and others working around you. So many people have a hidden agenda. Beware of the lies, and games they will play to get close to you, then go out and sell a story. No one will ever really trust that intern. They may hire her just to spite Weiner, but no one in their right mind, will trust someone who hangs around, gathering information or gossip to sell. If you do not like the way someone is doing something, you leave, you don't sell information and gossip.

New Yorkers get what they deserve.
The fact this joker is even being talked about now is proof that New Yorkers don't really care about their governance.
The rest of the nation laughs at you, New York City. You get exactly what you deserve.

Is Weiner really all that well packaged?
If he represents the quality of people running for public office then we are in serious trouble.
I wonder what part of his body he will display on his campaign signs.

politics is dirty... sooooo dirty.... does anyone in it still consider themselves as someone who "serves the public" cause it seems much more like they are serving themselves.. ONLY... every single one of them.

    Classy, Barbara Morgan. Very classy.

The fact that a woman can say all those misogynistic things about another - oh, right, younger and better looking, and smarter - woman is very revealing.

Quit – really? Isn't that exactly what the former congressman did? Not only is he deviant, also appears to be a poor judge of character.
